A new event has risen in California, the Bring Your Game LA Bubble. The showcase event consisted of 3 high level reffed camp games and a top 40 and top 20 game. Prep Hoops takes a look at some of the standout prep school prospects who stood out at the event.
Trae Taylor Trae Taylor 6'4" | SF Mission Bay | 2020 State CA-S (6’9″ Scale Prep, 2021) One of the biggest hidden gems who deserves more attention, Taylor is an all around forward who will be able to contribute at any level. Taylor has a high IQ, is a mobile forward who does a great job of stretching the floor. He also has high energy, hustles and boxes out, and is a good finisher at the rim. Coaches can’t go wrong taking a chance on Taylor as his skill set fits in with multiple systems and he has the IQ to play any given role his team needs. Taylor was voted into the top 20 game.
Kevin Siakam (6’9″ NELA Prep, 2021) The younger cousin of Pascal Siakam made a huge splash dominating in every game he played at the Bubble. A combination of size, length, and strength, Siakam got to the rim at will and punished defenders in his way. Kevin has a good handle for his size, and does most of his damage facing up and attacking the basket. Formerly a standout in Virginia, Siakam is coming into his own on the west coast and is interested in many schools in the area. Siakam was voted into the top 40 game.
Justyn Hunter Justyn Hunter 6'1" | PG Fairfax | 2020 State CA-S (6’2″ NELA Prep, 2021) The former Fairfax guard showed up and was immediately in his bag on Friday evening. Hunter showed an improving handle and did a great job attacking the rim and creating for himself off the dribble. There were several possessions where his team’s offense was stagnant and he was able to create separation and splash a jumper. The former Lion guard has always been known as a high energy defender and brought much of the same with an increased offensive arsenal. Hunter was voted into the top 20 game of the event by coaches.
Felix Reeves (6’5″ NELA Prep, 2021) High energy and active defense are the first two things when you take a look at Reeves. The former Coronado (Las Vegas) stand out does a great job of playing passing lanes and getting deflections and causing turnovers. He is also an improving shooter who has 3 point range. Felix showed that he is a 2 way threat on Friday evening by getting steals and getting the ball in the rim for his team. Reeves was voted by coaches in to the top 40 game.
Gavin Davis (6’4″ TMG Prep, 2021) Slithery wing who can score the ball. Davis does a great job of getting most of his buckets on high percentage looks, whether on dunks or on threes. Gavin is a consistent shooter who has a consistent release. His form rarely changes and he knows how to create space to get his shot off. Davis is a high IQ player who doesn’t force bad shots and takes what the defense gives him. Davis was voted into the top 40 game.
Biko Johnson (6’2″, 2021) The athletic combo guard is a one man fast break. Biko does a great job of getting out in transition and getting to the cup for athletic finishes. He has good size and can play both guard spots. He knows how to use his body to initiate contact and finish when getting into the lane. Johnson is also an improving shooter who has range to the 3 point line. His accuracy goes up as his corner 3s seem to be his sweet spot.
