Continue ReadingI headed up to Coral Springs to take in the prestigious Kreul Classic tournament. The Kreul has been a fixture in South Florida for more than 30 years. The organization and maintenance of this year’s event has been particularly impressive due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Kreul Classic is nationally recognized for inviting some of the top basketball programs from across the country. This year, the four-day showcase featured some of the top basketball schools in Florida thanks to Covid-19.
Here are my observations…
Reece Randolph Reece Randolph 5'9" | PG Chaminade Madonna | 2024 FL – Stranahan
Welcome to the show, Reece Randolph Reece Randolph 5'9" | PG Chaminade Madonna | 2024 FL ! The 5-foot-6 point guard was critical in the Mighty Dragons comeback victory over Blanche Ely. Randolph knocked down three 3-pointers, including a pair in the final minutes to lift Stranahan to a win over its rival. He displayed a championship level swagger that has encompassed the Mighty Dragons over the last few seasons. The term “He’s just a freshman” gets thrown around a lot, but Randolph didn’t show the jitters of it in crunch time of his first varsity game.
Sal Stewart – Westminster Christian
2022 Sal Stewart has been a scoring machine thus far in the tournament. The 6-foot-3 guard scored 20 points and knocked down six 3-pointers in yesterday’s game against St. Andrew’s School. Previously, Stewart scored 21 points and buried another six 3-pointers against The Rock School on Saturday. The Vanderbilt baseball commit has shown little fear from deep. His performance from long range places Stewart at the top for trifectas in the tournament to this point. The Warriors have an excellent leader who will not back down from anyone.
Kellen Cashman – Monarch
2023 Kellen Cashman has been on my radar even since being an 8th grader at American Heritage-Plantation. The 6-foot-4 point scored a career-high 25 points in a victory over the McArthur Mustangs. Cashman has been developing nicely as a varsity player ever since his days with the Patriots. His promise should continue to show after his strong performance on Monday.
Aidan Abell Aidan Abell 6'6" | SG Westminster Academy | 2022 State FL – Westminster Academy
2022 Aidan Abell Aidan Abell 6'6" | SG Westminster Academy | 2022 State FL went big-time against Pine Crest on Saturday. The 6-foot-5 combo guard scored 16 of his 24 points in the second half as the Lions defeated the Panthers in comeback fashion. Moreover, Abell connected on three 3-pointers and shot 92 percent (12/13) from the foul line. It was an impressive performance for Abell as he went up against 2022 twins Ausar Thompson and Amen Thompson. He is a highly impressive shooter that can rise up going from his left or his right. Abell is also explosive driving to the rim, particularly from the baseline. The junior superstar has put together a string of strong performances against top teams, including earlier this season against Montverde Academy.
Jimel Lane Jimel Lane 6'7" | PF Palmetto | 2022 State FL – Mater Academy Charter
2022 Jimel Lane Jimel Lane 6'7" | PF Palmetto | 2022 State FL looked impressive against Mater Lakes. The 6-foot-5 wing scored 35 points in the Lions 100-68 victory over the Bears. The Coral Gables transfer is an athletic and long playmaker at all levels of the floor. Lane averaged 15.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore for the Cavaliers. His smooth scoring ability and knack at attacking the basket are trademarks in his game. Lane has been the top scorer (59) in the tournament over two games.
Kenny Turner Kenny Turner 6'6" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL – St. Andrew’s
2021 Kenny Turner Kenny Turner 6'6" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL is an underrated star on the Scots The 6-foot-7 forward scored 13 points and grabbed ten rebounds in a 61-39 victory over Cypress Bay. Turner has a physical frame and can wreak havoc around the interior. Moreover, his athleticism and motor is impressive for his size. Turner has averaged 7.7 points and 4.8 rebounds through six games. St Andrew’s has another state championship on its mind and Turner will be a big part.
