Continue Reading2020 has been a challenging time for many of us. It is my hope that the ongoing basketball season has been a ray of distraction as we close out the year.
As we turn the page to 2021, I would like to highlight some players that have been on my radar. As always, please feel free to reach out on my socials about players across South Florida.
Here is part two.
Greg Spate Greg Spate 6'6" | PG West Oaks | 2023 State FL – Coral Springs
2023 combo guard Greg Spate Greg Spate 6'6" | PG West Oaks | 2023 State FL has been on my radar ever since transferring over from Northeast. The 6-foot-6 Spate played well in the Kreul Classic and was named to the all-tournament team. Against Somerset Prep, Spate scored 15 points and knocked down four 3-pointers. His combination of length and athleticism give him an edge over his defenders. Moreover, Spate can matchup as a forward with his size. On defense, he can cover ground and block shots when he needs to. Spate is still developing his shot but has a ton of upside. You are not going to find many players with his size that you can work with.
Caelum Ethridge Caelum Ethridge 6'3" | SG Pembroke Pines | 2022 State FL – Pembroke Pines Charter
2022 Caelum Ethridge Caelum Ethridge 6'3" | SG Pembroke Pines | 2022 State FL is coming into his own with the Jaguars. The 6-foot-4 guard scored 25 points and knocked down five 3-pointers in a big victory over Miami Country Day. On the season, Ethridge is averaging 14 points per game through three contests. The University School transfer has transformed his body over the summer months and it looks to be paying off. Moreover, I have liked his outside shot and crafty ball handling ever since his time with the Sharks. Ethridge has a quick release and should continue to fill out as a complete guard.
David Delancy IV David Delancy IV 6'5" | CG Somerset Pines | 2023 FL – Somerset Academy (Pines)
The Panthers turned my head in the preseason with the play of 2021 Jonathan Renois Jonathan Renois 6'0" | CG Somerset | 2021 State FL . In addition, Somerset Academy has another intriguing prospect in 2023 David Delancy IV David Delancy IV 6'5" | CG Somerset Pines | 2023 FL . The 6-foot-4 guard scored 16 points and knocked down five 3-pointers in the Sunshine State Winter Challenge against St. Thomas Aquinas. Previously, he hit six 3-pointers and scored 18 points against Everglades High School. Delancy has preferred size in the backcourt and should continue to be a threat from outside. Still just a sophomore, Delancy will develop his guard skills moving forward.
Bobby Stewart Bobby Stewart 6'8" | C St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL – St. Andrew’s
2021 Bob Stewart is one of my favorite players to watch. The 6-foot-8 power forward is averaging 8.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game on 52 percent shooting for the Scots. Stewart is a high IQ player in the frontcourt that will carve out space around the rim. Against The Rock School, Stewart scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Big Bob has enough athleticism and finesse to be a steady hand alongside 2021’s Josh Minott Josh Minott 6'9" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State #30 Nation FL and Kenny Turner Kenny Turner 6'6" | PF St. Andrew's | 2021 State FL . Stewart is also an underrated passer for his position. The Ivy league or another high academic institution could be in his future.
MK Ashmore MK Ashmore 6'6" | SF North Broward Prep | 2021 State FL – North Broward Prep
The Eagles have a terrific student-athlete in MK Ashmore MK Ashmore 6'6" | SF North Broward Prep | 2021 State FL . The 6-foot-6 shooting guard/small forward is averaging 12.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Eagles according to MaxPreps. Against Sagemont, Ashmore scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds. In the classroom, he holds a 3.5 GPA. Ashmore is very athletic off the perimeter and can hit from outside. Thanks to his size, he can finish around the tin and has strong footwork. I look at Ashmore as a bit of a swiss-army knife that can do a bit of everything effectively in the Eagles system.
