The event took place December 12th and 13th at Inspire Courts in Gilbert/Chandler, AZ. Teams from all over the nation participated. Here is a recap of the 2022 standout players I watched.
Koren Johnson, 6’2 PG WA (Seattle Rotary):Johnson is an excellent floor general. He can pass the ball very well and knows how to distribute and find his teammates. A natural born leader Johnson fired his guys up to match his defensive ability. He has a very nice first step which allows him to get to the rim with ease. Johnson is also a great shooter and can shoot from anywhere on the floor. It’s easy to see why Koren Johnson is a top guard in the country.
Gabe Quiette, 6’5 CG CA (Big Red): This kid has a huge upside. He played great being an absolute terror with his long arms. He was very active defensively, forcing turnovers and scoring on runners on the other end. He is a solid rebounder and can find open lanes pretty well. As good as Quiette played it wasn’t his best. You could see that he still has a ton of potential and a lot of room to grow. Colleges are going to start taking notice of Quiette very soon.
Diego Sharp Diego Sharp 6'1" | SG ABC Prep | 2022 State NM 6’0 SG NM (Nike Team Swoosh) A very physical guard who has a good motor. He plays both ends of the floor well and is a gnat on defense. Sharp has a good outside shot although a majority of his baskets are scored from mid range and lay ups. He is also very bouncy which allows him to get a high number of boards.
Joshua Jefferson, 6’8 PF NV (West Coast Select): A strong big man who can step out and shoot the three or take his man off the dribble. A solid rebounder and also a very good shot blocker. Super versatile power forward who can do it all.
Kaleb Smith, 6’7 CF CA (Prodigy Elite): Very strong low post player who is versatile and can shoot the ball from the outside as well. He looks comfortable offensively and is a threat on defense. Smith can easily bully players who are smaller and matches up pretty well against bigs much bigger.
Devontes Cobbs Devontes Cobbs 6'3" | CG Overtime Elite | 2022 GA 6’5 CG MN (Eduprize): By far one of the most explosive players of the event. Cobbs can do it all. He could rebound, he could shoot, he could find open teammates, but most of all he can score. Excellent court IQ and knows when to attack the basket. Super bouncy and it shows when he he’s blasting through the middle. Just when teams thought they could contain Cobbs through the middle, he starts wacking three pointers from everywhere. Devontes Cobbs Devontes Cobbs 6'3" | CG Overtime Elite | 2022 GA is the real deal.
