Using consistent strong performances to boost their stock, they fulfilled their dreams of a college scholarship. With the early signing period complete, let’s fast-forward to next year at this time and take a look at some west coast sleepers in the class of 2022.
Jaden LeBel Jaden LeBel 6'4" | PF Cathedral Catholic | 2022 State CA-S 6’4 SG Cathedral Catholic (#59PHSC) – LeBel is a good scoring guard with a little wiggle to his game. He has a good stroke and can shoot it with range. He’s a high academic guy that currently has interest from some Ivy League Schools.
Anthony Pittman 6’0 PG Bishop Gorman (NV) (#50PHN) – It’s difficult to get on the floor at Gorman, that doesn’t mean Pittman doesn’t have college-level talent. Good two-way player that can dominate a ballhandler, and get paint touches with his driving ability. The question for him boils down to does he get enough opportunities? If the answer is yes then I think someone will like what they see from him.
Alpha Chibambe Alpha Chibambe 6'4" | SF JSerra | 2022 CA-S 6’5 SF J Serra (CA) (#37PHSC) – Chibambe has a stand out frame to go along with an interesting game. His athleticism and power can overwhelm opponents at times. I think that there are questions about his game, which is why he hasn’t had a ton of HM interest, however, his on court production is hard to ignore.
Daniel Ameyaw 6’8 C Balboa (CA) – I’m currently on the lookout for high motor, athletic, undersized bigs. Ameyaw fits that model perfectly. He changes ends well and is impactful with his shot-blocking and rebounding ability. It’s going to be need specific, but someone is going to fall in love with his size and athleticism.
Orion Tomlinson Orion Tomlinson 6'1" | CG Fresno Christian | 2022 CA-N 6’1 PG Fresno Christian (CA) (#51PHNC)- Tomlinson is the classic case of a player that has to be on every night. When he plays to his strengths, which is penetrating and creating for teammates, he’s an impressive looking prospect. He was second in points and first in assist for a 26 wing FC squad last year. For him, it’s a matter of improving his outside jumper, and playing with consistency every time he takes the floor.
Tyus Parrish-Tillman Tyus Parrish-Tillman 6'6" | PF Fresno Christian | 2022 CA-N 6’7 PF Fresno Christian (CA) (#50PHNC) (featured image) – Tomlinson’s teammate at FC, TPT led the Eagles in scoring and rebounding. His size is attractive, but I believe what will intrigue coaches, is his timing on his shot-blocking. Not an Elite R&J athlete, nevertheless Tillman erases shots by staying on his feet until it’s time to pounce.
Damian Ruiz Damian Ruiz 6'2" | SG Linfield Christian | 2022 State CA-S 6’2 SG Gamepoint (CA) – I love the development that I’m seeing from Ruiz. Primarily known for his shooting, Ruiz has incorporated a handle to his game, making him much more dangerous off the dribble. With shooting at a high premium, if he can continue to show that he can play both backcourt positions, his versatility becomes more attractive to coaches.
