PDE’s Preseason Picks: Class 1A All-State Team

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Class 1A has an abundance of talented individuals playing in the class. A prime example of this is that three of the top four players in the 2020 class are at housed at 1A schools. The preseason team consists of those players and a host of others who are highly decorated around the state.</p> <p><strong>1st Team </strong>(Alphabetical order)</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="765904" first="Keon" last="Coleman"] (6’4" Senior / Opelousas Catholic)</strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="765931" first="Gage" last="Larvadain"] (5’11" Senior / Riverside)</strong></p> <p><strong>Donald "DJ" Lewis (6’7" Junior / Central Catholic)</strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="765923" first="Daniel" last="Ortiz"] (6’1" Senior / Calvary Baptist)</strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="566569" first="Derrick" last="Tezeno"] (6’4" Senior / North Central)</strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="765904" first="Keon" last="Coleman"]</strong> is the most exciting player in Louisiana prep athletics and his basketball exploits rival the ones he has had on the gridiron.  After two second team finishes, Coleman will be a first teamer.  <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="566569" first="Derrick" last="Tezeno"]</strong> has been the best player on the North Central Hurricanes squad the last two seasons.  This year will make it three along with a second consecutive first team selection.  <strong>DJ Lewis</strong> made the honorable mention team along with three of his teammates.  I believe he takes the next step and makes the first team this year.  </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="765931" first="Gage" last="Larvadain"] </strong>and<strong> [player_tooltip player_id="765923" first="Daniel" last="Ortiz"]</strong> are probably the best scorers in the class.  Ortiz drops down from 5A to finish his prep career and hopefully help the Cavs close the deal this year after being state runner-up last season.  Larvadain, who is also a very accomplished football player, is a marksman from distance.  He also knows how to get into the lane and find shooters on the kickout.  Watch for these two to put shooting displays each time they hit the floor.  </p> <p><strong>2nd Team </strong>(Alphabetical order)</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="931041" first="Eli" last="Fountain"] (6’4" Senior / Grand Lake)</strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1045508" first="Kurt" last="Labeaud"] (6’0" Senior / Crescent City)</strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="765920" first="Darrien" last="Perry"] (6’0" Senior / Plain Dealing)</strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="781856" first="Reginald" last="Stoner"] (6’1" Senior / North Central)</strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="781860" first="Labree" last="Williams"] (6’6" Junior / Calvary Baptist)</strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="931041" first="Eli" last="Fountain"]</strong> gained a lot of experience being apart of a Grand Lake team that only lost two games last season.  He should be the go-to-guy this season and has an all-around game that can fill up a stat sheet.  <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1045508" first="Kurt" last="Labeaud"] </strong>was the Division IV championship game most outstanding player.  He should continue with that momentum and have a great season with a talented Crescent City squad.  <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="765920" first="Darrien" last="Perry"]</strong> is one of the most gifted and talented scoring point guards in the state.  He should have Plain Dealing in the thick of the 1-1A race as a leader for the Lions.  <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="781856" first="Reginald" last="Stoner"] </strong>can take over a game with his defense and he is very good in transition.  Look for him to be part of a talented 1-2 punch with [player_tooltip player_id="566569" first="Derrick" last="Tezeno"] in class 1A.  <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="781860" first="Labree" last="Williams"]</strong> is another gifted scorer who will have to defend the paint this season.  If he plays to his capability and defends as well as he scores, he will be a 2nd team selection for sure.  </p> <p>Others who will have a chance at 1st or 2nd team:</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="970133" first="Tyler" last="Ringgold"] (6’7" Sophomore / Southern Lab) </strong>- Ringgold should get plenty offensive opportunities to be a force for the Kittens on the hardwood.  Playing big in big games will boost him into the conversation</p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="765935" first="De’mon" last="White"] (6’7" Senior / Oak Grove)</strong> - The sooner White gets to the hardwood from the football field will help with his candidacy for 1st or 2nd team.  He has size and athelticism to play the four.   If he plays well, he will end up on one of these list.  </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="981490" first="Ivan" last="Clark"] (6’4" Junior / Tensas)</strong> - It is Clark’s turn to lead a Tensas team that seems to always be in the running for a state title.  He can score and rebound which was the method <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="974872" first="Treshaun" last="Wiggins"]</strong> used last season to finish on the second team.   It may just work again for Clark.</p> <p>These players and others will be in the hunt for the first team in class 1A.  Monday, November 16th will begin to tell us the story.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
