A two day event featuring prospects from Sacramento, the Bay Area, and Central Valley. The average height for this class of 2021 prospects are 6’6 to 6’8. Here’s my take on six of the 2021 prospects.
CJ McMillan 6’6 Forward/Post, Capital Christian 2022
McMillan is a wide body prospect who knows how to use his body. He was very effective having his way 15ft and in. Whether he was posting up, or using a 1, or 2 dribble drive to the rim. He moves pretty well for a player of his size, and can be a dominant force in the paint. He has good hands, and finishes well on either side of the rim. He can hit the elbow jumper, and a good passer from the high post area. He had a couple of put backs attacking the offensive boards. Drop a few more pounds, and some conditioning, he’ll be hard to guard.
Jeremiah Hannah 6’8, Forward/Post, Edison 2021
Hannah has a long wingspan and covers a lot of ground from the perimeter to the post area on defense, he has good lateral movement, and guarded well on the perimeter. He’s a good defender, and a okay rim protector. His arms are always away from the body or up. His long strides gets him up the court in a hurry. Hannah’s offensive skills need some polishing, but he was effective finishing on put backs, and dump offs around the basket.
JT Byrne JT Byrne 6'7" | PF Carmel | 2021 State CA-N 6’6 Forward, Carmel 2021
The Oregon State commit (Football) was there on Saturday for two games. He wasted no time hustling, and scrapping for lose balls, and rebounds. He’s a big body that will bump and bang with any player posting up. He has good agility being a two sport athlete with good footwork, and movement in the post area. He was pretty effective scoring in the low post, and driving from the elbow.
Chico Lewis Chico Lewis 6'7" | PF Capital Christian | 2021 State CA-N 6’8 Forward/Post, Capital Christian 2021.
Lewis is an improved prospect who plays to his strengths, he’s not going to fill the stat sheet, but he will rebound and defend. He did a decent job defending in the post, and was okay on the perimeter, with good help on the weak side and taking away passing lanes with his wingspan. He’s protecting the rim better, and hustles up the court in transition. He’s aware of the dump off pass and will finish. A good screener, and rolls to the basket. He should continue to build strength.
Carlton Sealzler 6’7 Forward, Fresno Christian 2021
It was my first look at Sealzler. I thought he played better on day two of this event. He does have some tools to work with. He plays hard and runs the court. He’s a inside out player showing showing decent foot work and scoring inside. He showed range, and made his way to the basket from the wing. Sealzler had a couple of blocks, and put backs. Ill see more of him.
Ak Okereke 6’7 Forward, Clovis North 2021
Okereke is a good looking athlete, with a good frame, broad shoulders, and long wingspan. He has good lateral movement. He has good size to defend and protect the rim in the post with his reach. He did a good job defending on the wing, and taking away the passing lanes. He runs the floor in transition, he had a couple of dunks. He can hit the 3, but he’ll have to work on his shooting form, and bulk up a bit. Could be a sleeper.
