The wing position can be quantified in many different ways from guys with size who are 3/4’s or guys who are 2/3’s who can fill it up or the new term 3 and D guy. However, you want to classify and categorize this position just know this guy usually is a Swiss army knife out on the floor. From being the primary score to being the best perimeter lockdown defender or a guy who plays more point forward and can initiate the offense these players have become one of the more valuable positions on the basketball court.
Here is a group of guys who fit that bill in the class of 2022.
Jonathan Murray Jonathan Murray 6'7" | NA lbs | SF Huffman | 2022 #NA Nation AL , 6’7 SF, Huffman: After a very successful sophomore campaign where he helped lead his team to a 6A State Championship the versatile wingman should be ready for an even more dominant junior season. His ability to score inside and outside is tough to guard at his size on the high school level. He can step out and shoot the three with consistency and is a beast on the glass capable of posting double-digit rebounds a night when fully engaged. Excited to see how much he has improved since last season.
Landon Jacobs Landon Jacobs 6'6" | NA lbs | SF Sparkman | 2022 State #NA Nation AL , 6’5 SF, Madison Academy: This long arm wing has a very good body for such a young prospect. He can shoot it from deep and handle it in the open floor. His potential oozes out of him when he is on the court, but needs to stay fully engaged when on the floor and capitalize on that vast skill set. With constant effort could turn out to be a true lockdown defender inside and out. Looking for big numbers in his junior campaign.
Ti’avian Scruggs Ti’avian Scruggs 6'5" | NA lbs | SF Hzel Green | 2022 State #NA Nation AL , 6’5 SF, Hazel Green: A true sleeper who hasn’t yet gotten his just due. The lefty has a game that won’t wow you with athleticism or wow plays but at the end of the night, he has stuffed the stat sheet. His efficiency around the basket and in the midrange is where he butters his bread. He has a good handle with the ability to score just about anywhere on the court. He works hard on defense but sometimes gets caught having to battle with bigger bodies. Looking forward to seeing his improvement in his junior season.
Hunter Ivy Hunter Ivy 6'3" | NA lbs | SG Fairhope | 2022 State #NA Nation AL , 6’2 SG, Fairhope: This kid has started off the season on fire averging just under 20 points a game with almost 6 boards and 5 assist. The lefty can really fill it up from deep and does a great job of getting off his shot in the midrange. He is deadly off catch and shoot situations and has a 1 mean on dribble pull up game. His toughness on both ends of the floor is also a plus as he has the body to withstand punishment on both ends of the floor whether giving or taking it.
Wilder Evers Wilder Evers 6'3" | NA lbs | CG Oak Mountain | 2022 State #NA Nation AL , 6’3 CG, Oak Mountain: This kid just keeps progressing at a rate that has him continuing to skyrocket up the Prep Hoops Rankings. He is on a loaded Oak Mountain team that also has several high major potential players. He can shoot it, he can guard multiple positions, he can handle and be a playmaker. His body continues to develop and his athleticism has taken off. Look for him to turn several players into memes this season if they dare try and meet him at the rim. This season will be one that puts him squarely on the map.
