SubscribeDUNCANVILLE, TX – The 15th annual Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph Camp, via impresario Dino Trigonis, wrapped up Sunday afternoon in the Duncanville Fieldhouse in this Dallas suburb.
Two hundred and nineteen players, including a quality group of eighth graders mixed in with the freshmen and sophomores, took part while being spread across 24 camp squads.
Following the concluding game, the Top 30 Cream of the Crop, Trigonis (with input from myself and fellow long-time McDonald’s All-American voter Van Coleman, as well as Ronnie Flores of Ballislife), tabbed three sophomores to share the camp’s “Most Outstanding Player” honors.
By impressions of each of them, with the players listed in alphabetical sequence:

OK
(6-foot-9/Del City, OK): Garrison impressed in the first minutes I watched him in action Saturday afternoon with the “Texas” squad and was even more assertive and during his ensuing two camp games and then into the Top 30 contest
He impacted play as a rebounder and shot blocker, as well as inside-the-lane “finisher” and, as he gained more confidence, as a mid-range jump shooter
*Robert “RJ” Jones Jr. (6-3/Aubrey, TX, Braswell): Jones, a Top 30 pick at the event a year ago as a freshman, still went into this even as one of the more underrated members of the Texas and national Classes of 2023.
Anyone who was the in the Fieldhouse over the weekend, or has since watched some of the action via BallerTV, should be hip to the fact that that “underrated” status is about to be dashed.
There isn’t an aspect to the game, at either of the floor, at which he isn’t already proficient or better.
Christopher Lockett Jr. (6-5/New Orleans Newman): The most highly touted (nationally) player in the national ratings going into the camp, Lockett showed his remarkable skill as a handler, passer, mid-range shooter and floor leader.
