Hosted by recruiting legend Gerry Freitas, the event featured teams from Washington, California, Arizona and Idaho. It also featured several quality Floor Generals. In this article PH takes a look at the top Point guards from the Arizona Fall Shootout.
Leonard Romayor 5’9 Legion of Hoops 2023 (#53PHA 2023) – For a player so young, Romayor plays the game with great feel and intelligence. He operates well in P&R situations, and has a solid handle that allows him to maneuver around the floor. He’s probably more of a combo at this stage in his career, however his ceiling is tied directly to his ability to operate from the 1.
Solomon Little 6’3 Supreme Court 2021 – Little played well when in transition and attacking downhill. He did a good a good job of collapsing the defense and finding the open man. He’s an intriguing prospect that has good size for the position. He didn’t take a ton of jumpers, but there are no mechanical flaws on his shot.
Lewis Singletary 5’11 Gamepoint Elite 2022 – I had to get Singletary in there. He played with a high motor and was one of the better on ball defenders on the weekend. A true Floor General, the 5’11 point man was able to have a positive impact on the game without taking a shot.
Wayne McKinney Wayne McKinney 5'10" | PG Coronado | 2021 State CA-S 6’0 Coastal Slayers Elite 2021 (#22PHSC 2021) – I’ve gotten to see a lot of McKinney over the summer and he has not disappointed. He’s a big time athlete that changes the entire tempo of games with his speed and power. McKinney routinely put pressure on the defense with his ability to beat people off the dribble, and get consistent paint touches.
Darric Blockman 5’8 509 Elite 2021 – The little guy from Washington did not go unnoticed. He struggled with his shot early in the weekend, but never lost his confidence. Regardless of how he shot the ball, he showed a high motor and team leadership all weekend.
Devon Arlington Devon Arlington 6'3" | PG San Marcos | 2022 State CA-S 6’3 Gamepoint Elite 2022 (#12PHSC 2022) (featured image) – Arlington was as good as advertised. He was unstoppable on his way to the basket and showed a good in between pull up game. His handle was tight, and he showed a good ability to pass off the bounce. One of the highest recruited guards on the West coast, showed exactly why.
Mison Coilton 6’2 Lions Truth 2021 – Coilton doesn’t necessarily look the part, but he showed a nice floor general game throughout the week. He bullied and overpowered smaller guards, using Euro’s and a variety of 1,2’s to finish in the paint. The powerfully built PG has a good first step and surprisingly nimble feet.
