2023 Rankings
Here is a peek at the newest Top 10 and how each player projects for this upcoming high school season.
No. 1 – Matthew Bewley Ι 6-9 Ι West Oaks
Making the switch from Oakland Park Northeast to West Oaks alongside his twin brother Ryan, Matt is in for a huge season for the SIAA program out of Orlando. Miami, Virginia Tech, Alabama, Ole Miss, Illinois, St. John’s, Auburn, FSU, UF, DePaul, Iowa State and USF have offered both Bewley twins. For Matthew Bewley, he can handle the rock, drive to the lane, shoot with confidence and serve as a dangerous shot blocker.
No. 2 – Gus Yalden Gus Yalden 6'9" | C La Lumiere | 2023 IN Ι 6-10 Ι IMG Academy
Moving down from Wisconsin this summer, Gus Yalden Gus Yalden 6'9" | C La Lumiere | 2023 IN tore it up with his AAU team Wisconsin Playground this summer in many events including the Prep Hoops Circuit. Now at IMG, the bonafide big man has offers out from a slew of schools which include: Stanford, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Howard, Oklahoma, Winthrop, Auburn, West Virginia, FSU, Maryland, Iowa, Nebraska, Cal State Northridge, Utah and Rutgers. Yalden is going to work his body into shape at the Bradenton-based academy and his mix of power, shooting and movement will do him wonders with this group.
No. 3 – Ryan Bewley Ι 6-9 Ι West Oaks
Ryan Bewley came over to West Oaks alongside his brother and has all the offers that his brother has listed above. A long body much like Matthew, Ryan is a true two-way player who is developing his jumper and is just as dangerous as an inside presence and core scorer.
No. 4 – Marvel Allen Marvel Allen 6'4" | SG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #46 Nation FL Ι 6-4 Ι Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian
Outside of USF, who offered last August after its elite camp, it shocked me that Marvel Allen Marvel Allen 6'4" | SG Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian | 2023 State #46 Nation FL didn’t command more attention earlier on. He has been a varsity starter dating back to 8th grade at Benjamin and started and flourished last season at Wellington. He is now with a super deep and talented Ft. Lauderdale Calvary Christian group where he will thrive as a true point man and scorer. LSU and Virginia Tech both offered in July.
No. 5 – Jason Jackson Ι 6-4 Ι Sarasota Riverview
Making major strides since last season, Jason Jackson has had a breakout summer. You saw glimpses of solid play last season as a true freshman but he is more confident, using his athleticism to make plays as a slasher, shooter and creator. Jackson has offers from UF and Virginia Tech and looks to be a high level performer for Sarasota Riverview this season.
No. 6 – Sean Stewart Sean Stewart 6'8" | PF Montverde | 2023 State #11 Nation FL Ι 6-8 Ι Windermere
Transferring from Lake Highland Prep to Windermere, Sean Stewart Sean Stewart 6'8" | PF Montverde | 2023 State #11 Nation FL is surrounded by two Division I guards in 2021 pair Trey Moss Trey Moss 6'3" | PG Windermere | 2021 State #199 Nation FL (USF) and Kanye Jones Kanye Jones 6'4" | CG Windermere | 2021 State FL (College of Charleston). With Stewart’s tempo play, movement as a guard or wing, he is simply packed with endless upside. He is impressed every time I see him take the floor. Stewart has earned offers from Pittsburgh, Kansas, Arizona State, USF and Stetson. He could easily work his way into the Top 5 here shortly.
No. 7 – John Gamble John Gamble 6'4" | SG Charlotte | 2023 FL Ι 6-4 Ι Charlotte
One of the most talented pure athletes to come out of Charlotte County in quite some time, John Gamble John Gamble 6'4" | SG Charlotte | 2023 FL is well on his way. He is a long body, who plays to his strengths and simply plays fast and hard. He is always looking to drive and create. Ole Miss, Stetson and Mississippi Valley State have all offered the Charlotte High guard.
No. 8 – Sam Walters Sam Walters 6'9" | PF The Villages | 2023 State #96 Nation FL Ι 6-9 Ι Montverde Academy
Sam Walters Sam Walters 6'9" | PF The Villages | 2023 State #96 Nation FL has the size and skills to be a high-level college athlete. He transferred from The Villages to Montverde Academy just last month. Adding muscle and becoming stronger at the point of attack will be the focus for him. But he has a good core set of skills in place as a ballhandler, shooter and defender. UF, LSU, Georgetown, USF and Stetson have offered already.
No. 9 – Jahzare Jackson Ι 7-0 Ι IMG Academy
Suiting up for IMG Academy Blue, the program’s second-best team, Jahzare Jackson will continue to work on his development. He has shed weight and is in the process of adding better leaping ability to his game. Of course, when you watch his group play it is impossible to not see Jackson at his 7-0 foot frame, he is a brute down low as a finisher, rebounder and a cleanup artist. Tennessee State represents his lone offer.
No. 10 – Nate Sasser Nate Sasser 6'6" | SG Suncoast | 2023 State #207 Nation FL Ι 6-6 Ι Suncoast
Last but not least is one of the most dynamic athletes in the entire state in Nate Sasser Nate Sasser 6'6" | SG Suncoast | 2023 State #207 Nation FL . The 6-6 guard/wing has been a highly known name dating back to his middle school days. He spent his freshman season at Grandview Prep but now comes over to Suncoast where a talented young nucleus is in place. I fully expect Sasser to blow up this season at his new stomping grounds.
