2021: Under Recruited Guards

The Covid-19 Pandemic has changed basketball recruiting for sure over the past 6 plus months. Several college programs at all levels haven’t been out since the Pandemic and haven’t built a relationship with recruits. Some college programs are waiting to see what happens this college basketball season with their own program and season. Will players get a year back if the season doesn’t go right this coming winter ? Several college programs are just taking a list and not in a hurry to recruit no one right just because no one knows the certainty of this crazy Pandemic Covid-19. 

Prep Hoops takes a look at some Under Recruited Guards who have been effected by this along with several others throughout the country. RECRUIT THE PALMETTO STATE. 

Jalen Breazeale Jalen Breazeale 5'10" | PG Dorman | 2021 State SC – Dorman HS – Upward Stars Southeast 2021

Breazeale is back for his senior season with the Cavaliers. Can the Cavaliers win a 5th straight Class 5A State Championship this coming March ? Breazeale has continued on his perimeter shooting and ability to get the ball into the paint. 

DaVeon Thomas DaVeon Thomas 6'0" | PG Ridge View | 2021 State SC – Lee Central HS (Bishopville) – Upward Stars Southeast 2021

Thomas has been a constant staple in the back court for the Stallions for the past 4 seasons. Thomas and Breazeale teamed up this summer on the Grassroots Circuit with Upward Stars Southeast 2021. Thomas a tough minded point guard isn’t afraid to have a few bruises after a ball game. 

Cohen Gaskins Cohen Gaskins 6'3" | PG James Island | 2021 State SC – James Island HS – Upward Stars Columbia 

Gaskins will wear a new uniform in and it will down on the Island this coming fall. Gaskins a transfer from Pinewood Prep will team up with Bailey Wiseman Bailey Wiseman 6'2" | CG James Island | 2021 State SC in the Trojans back court. Gaskins and Wiseman will make the move to Class 4A this coming season. 

Omazeon Tinsley Omazeon Tinsley 5'9" | PG Lancaster | 2021 State SC – Lancaster HS – Carolina Pressure 

Tinsley might be small in height but not in determination. Tinsley has picked up a handful of NCAA D2 offers over the summer. Tinsley has been directing the Bruins offense since his freshman season. Tinsley along with Janyle Pittman Janyle Pittman 6'3" | SG Lancaster | 2021 State SC will provide senior leadership this coming fall. 

Caleb Houston Caleb Houston 5'11" | PG Northwood Academy | 2021 State SC – Northwood Academy (Summerville) 

Houston plays for his father Anthony Houston here on the Chargers roster. Houston didn’t play this summer after generally playing with TMP every summer. Houston averaged 19.1 ppg and 5 assists last season. Houston enters his senior season with 1,245 career points. 

AJ Thompson AJ Thompson 5'10" | PG Northwestern | 2021 State SC – Northwestern HS (Rock Hill) – Team Synergy 

Prep Hoops saw plenty of Thompson this summer running the show for his local Team Synergy squad. Thompson is back to lead the Trojans offense in the Upstate. Thompson is a feisty guard who is quick to get the ball into the paint. Thompson has the ability to hit open jumpers on the floor. 

Michael Shuler Michael Shuler 5'10" | PG Woodland | 2021 State SC – Woodland HS 

Shuler plays off the grid down at Woodland HS for Head Coach Leon Wheaton. Shuler a 94 feet guard excels in several sports for the Wolverines. Shuler averaged 16 ppg and 4.4 assists last season for the Wolverines.
