Player Breakdown: Luke Hoetker

Last season, Hoetker helped lead the Borah Lions to a 5A state championship and will look to help them return to a state appearance this season. Hoetker is an excellent point guard who plays the game with lots of passion and is regularly one of the best on the court. Continue reading for an in-depth look at Hoetker’s skills across the board.</p> <p><strong>Defense:</strong> Hoetker is a tenacious and hardworking defender. He loves to pressure opposing guards and has really quick reactions which allows him to keep opposing guards in front. He plays hard every single possession and has a great motor that helps him continue to compete for the entirety of a game. Hoetker is a strong player and always fronts in the post if he has to switch onto a big. He fights around every time and battles in the post to tire out the post or make the offense change their approach to the game. Luke rebounds very well for his height and position and always crashes the boards so he can start a fast break.</p> <p><strong>Offense:</strong> Luke is a great all-around point guard and is a floor general. He has the ability to knock down an open shot from anywhere on the perimeter and is a constant threat from outside. Luke finishes extremely well at the rim and is a great cutter when he doesn’t have the ball. He loves to get into traffic in the paint where he can seek contact and finish against taller defenders. He is constantly at the free throw line after drawing fouls and he does a great job of stretching possessions. One of the best aspects of Luke’s offensive game is his court vision. He is an excellent and willing passer that always finds the open man, the hot shooter, or a cutting wing for easy buckets. </p> <p><strong>Overall</strong><strong>:</strong> Hoetker is an excellent all-around point guard that can do it all on both ends of the floor. He is in great conditioning shape and can run on both ends for the entirety of a game with ease. He is an underrated defender with good hands and quick reactions and is an excellent passer with a deadly jump shot and the ability to finish around the rim in traffic. Luke will make a great floor general at the next level.</p>
