In one of Americas top populated cities you are bound to find some players, especially with the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant and Kyle Lowry that paint the hoops history of this city. The Pub is one of the largest leagues in the country fielding 75 plus team broken down into 5 divisions. With so many teams it is easy to overlook someone the talent the league has to offer. Since exposure opportunities were extremely limited this summer due to the COVID pandemic, many of the sleeper talent did not get the chance to take advantage of NCAA Live periods. And with the dead recruiting period being pushed back to 2021 those opportunities to get exposure are no existent.
So with that being said we at Prep Hoops will begin a series featuring Class of 2021 players from The Pub that are under the radar that have caught my eye. There are hidden gems in this league that can help college programs. Here are a few senior sleepers to follow this upcoming season.
Isaiah Chambers Isaiah Chambers 5'10" | CG Penn Treaty | 2021 State PA , Penn Treaty – In the last two seasons Isaiah has put a league division MVP trophy and two league all-star awards on his mantle. With his marvelous court vision and understanding how to attack the defense finding teammates shows his sense for the game. He also knows how to feed the post, which is a lost art. At a swift and scrappy 5’7” he gets after it on defense and likes to hustle for loose balls. He is capable of scoring in bunches and has college 3-point range. And oh yeah! This North Philly native got handles. Any small college should look to add a player with his skill set to their program.
Karim Anderson, Engineering & Science – This 6’4” combo guard is a coaches dream. Karim is the prefect extension of the coach when he is on the floor. With his high IQ and strong handle he facilitates the offense and loves to get his teammates involved. He is very comfortable in half court situations which allows him to display his above average passing skills and court vision. Defensively he plays the passing lanes very well and communicates with his teammates. Karim has been working on extending his range this summer as he looks to carry some of the scoring load for his senior season. He has attracted interest from area D3 schools.
Symir Priester Symir Priester 6'4" | SF Sankofa | 2021 State PA , Sankofa – Symir has a bright future ahead of him. His aggressive style of play on offense and defense will make him very attractive to college coaches. With excellent penetration skills out of the triple threat position and the ability to finish at the rim with both hands, Symir can easily score when he wants. His mid-range and spot up shooting game shows his maturity and understanding of the game. He is very shifty, but always under control and has a unique ability to change speed. A great on the ball defender and is very verbal on defense. This 6’3” combo guard honor roll student will surely garner the interest of college coaches.
Naseem Starks, Mastery Charter South – If you want the definition of a true point guard, watch Naseem play and you will find you answers. He knows how to run a team and gets his teammates in position to initiate the offense. He has great court vision and understands shot selection which is very valuable from the point guard position. He is very crafty with the basketball and has sneaky speed. As a freshman he was 5’3” but going into his senior year stands at 6’1” and looks to be still growing. Very coachable and executes instructions from his coaching staff very well. He is always in the gym improving his game and will benefit from the upcoming season to display his talents for coaches at the next level.
