NYBL Crash Course / LOCI Labor Day Live – Part 2

Prep Hoops takes a look at Part 2 from the NYBL Crash Course / LOCI Labor Day Live from the Myrtle Beach Sports Center. 

Marques Smith Marques Smith 6'2" | CG Richland Northeast | 2023 State SC – Columbia HS – HYB Raptors 

Smith was a bit of a surprise to me watching him play. I had seen the Capitals during the season but just didn’t recall him at all according to my notes. Smith is a SHOOTER who pops off screens at time. Smith needed space for his shot at times and rarely put it on the floor. Smith averaged just around 5 ppg this past season at the varsity level. 

Jaylin Linder Jaylin Linder 6'5" | SF Bluffton | 2023 State SC – Bluffton HS – HYB Raptors (pictured on the front) 

Linder has a really good look to him at a young age. Linder also plays football for the Bobcats as wide receiver and defensive back. Linder did his best work around the basket playing aggressive on the glass. Linder scored several points on put-backs and rebounds. 

Shymeik Jones Shymeik Jones 6'5" | PF Camden | 2023 SC – Camden HS – HYB Raptors 

Jones has a long wingspan and a good look to him. Jones ran the floor well and was able to alter and challenge shots at times. Jones really didn’t look to get into the scoring column much today and seemed a bit passive at times on the offensive end. 

Markel Townsend Markel Townsend 5'6" | PG AC Flora | 2023 SC – AC Flora HS – Team USC Elite

Townsend has that bulldog attitude to him on the floor. Townsend is a pesky defender and really keeps the ball low to the floor. Townsend has a strong frame and really plays the game at 94 feet. Townsend will play running back this fall in the Falcons backfield. 

Kaleb Caldwell Kaleb Caldwell 5'10" | PG North Central | 2023 State SC – Camden HS – Team USC Elite

Caldwell a left-handed guard had a great freshman season last year for the Bulldogs and Head Coach Ron McKie. Caldwell a all-region performer last season for the Bulldogs plays the game at a nice even keel. Caldwell finds the open man and has the ability to hit open shots on the floor. 

Davis Rice – Pace Academy (Atlanta, GA) – Buckhead Bulls 

Rice is a 3 sport athlete as his school. Rice a defensive back on the football team also plays baseball. Rice plays the game of basketball with a lot of toughness. Rice plays for Head Coach Matt Harpring (Former Georgia Tech player and 12 year NBA Veteran). Rice finished at the rim so many times on contact I stopped counting. Rice scored 21 points in the game I took in today. Rice really likes going to the basket and finishing with his left-hand on a regular basis today.
