There were several stock risers and breakout prospects in attendance that put everyone on notice. Here we take a look at some of the top 2022 standout recruits from the Who Want The Smoke tournament.
Anthony Black Anthony Black 6'7" | PG Duncanville | 2022 State #10 Nation TX | 6’6 | 3d Empire | C/o 2022One of the best playmakers of the tournaments, a fundamentally sound player that has great chemistry with his teammates, Black always knew exactly where to be and exactly where his teammates would be at all times. True team player, very unselfish, and a big-time creator. He kept his teammates involved and usually looked for open shooters or cutters first. This super athlete showed all of the physical tools, perfect length and still growing, excellent leaping ability, he even brought his football speed to the court and left everyone in his dust by flying up and down the floor; Anthony was at his best when playing in a fast pace game. Anthony Black Anthony Black 6'7" | PG Duncanville | 2022 State #10 Nation TX has dominated his competition all summer and continued the success throughout this tournament, proving that he’s one of the top all-around prospects in Texas and possibly the nation.
KyeRon Lindsay | 6’7 | Power Forward | Southern Assault | C/o 2022High IQ, smart basketball player that can stretch the floor, take ball full court, and make good passes for a big man. A phenomenal rebounder, he did a get job of boxing out and controlling the boards. Lindsay got the bulk of his points from knocking down mid-range jumpers, particularly around the free-throw line where he was near automatic. Kye beat his man down low as well, he showed the ability to score with either hand, and he moved around the blocks well and with consistency, his point guards always knew where he would be when they were driving lane. KyeRon Lindsay is a highly skilled postman with good to great intangibles.
Austin Benigni Austin Benigni 5'10" | PG The Woodlands Christian | 2022 State TX | 5’11 | Point Guard | Beast Up | C/o 2022 Austin Benigni Austin Benigni 5'10" | PG The Woodlands Christian | 2022 State TX is a true competitor that gets it done off sheer will and determination. Offensively, he’s super talented, Austin has no problem creating for himself and others, his passing and court awareness might be the best asset to his game. High-level vision, timing, and accuracy when dishing the ball out. A speedy point guard, everything Benigni does is at top speed, he moves so fast he’s a blur out there. His shiftiness, ball skills, acceleration, and speed in open and half-court settings were tremendous and caught defenders off guard, making their double teams and press defense look ineffective. On the defensive end, he’s a gritty, hard-nosed tough defender that works his tail off and gives up nothing easy. The killer instinct is in Austin Benigni Austin Benigni 5'10" | PG The Woodlands Christian | 2022 State TX , he’s a fearless, highly competitive player that plays basketball conducive to winning. He has no ceiling, the sky is the limit for this kid.
Savion Red Savion Red 6'1" | 195 lbs | G Grand Prairie | 2022 TX | 6’1 | Combo Guard | Texas Legion | C/o 2022 Savion Red Savion Red 6'1" | 195 lbs | G Grand Prairie | 2022 TX is a high energy, high-intensity player that approaches the game with a lot of passion and confidence, he’s one of the most confident ballers you will find. A volume shooter that can get hot at any moment and score in bunches, his fearless nature on the court got his team going each game. He carried the scoring load for his Texas Legion, Red started games in full-on attack mode, muscling and bully anyone in the way while driving the lane, and once he got it going his threes started falling and he began throwing it down on fast breaks. With a player like Savion Red Savion Red 6'1" | 195 lbs | G Grand Prairie | 2022 TX you know what you’re going to get, he’s willing to put himself out there and give his all, he plays every possession hard, he never takes any plays off, and he wants to win more than the man in front of him. Savion Red Savion Red 6'1" | 195 lbs | G Grand Prairie | 2022 TX is a guy I would want on my team any day of the week.
Cooper Macaulay | 6’5 | Shooting Guard | Beast Up | C/o 2022Pure 3-point marksman, Macaulay is an efficient shooter who is not afraid to shoot it from another area code. He’s a player you must account for at all times due to his quick trigger, and capability of catching fire, and being a knockdown shooter from distance. Macaulay is a player you can give the green light to every game, If he’s on the court then he’s looking to shoot, and any time he catches the ball he’s ready to let it fly. Cooper shot it with confidence and consistency, his shot never changed, he kept that same shooting form every time no matter the circumstance. He also did a great job of moving without the ball, finding openings behind the three-point line, and using off-ball screens to get quick open spot-up jump shots. Cooper Macaulay is one of the best, most reliable shooters in Texas.
