Prep Hoops Missouri takes a look at a group of former standouts from the state who are currently competing in the National Basketball Association in the “Bubble” in Orlando, FL.
Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics): The former Chaminade College Prep All-American has been dazzling all season and that has continued in the Bubble. In his first two playoff games against the Philadelphia 76ers, Tatum became the youngest Celtic player ever to record back to back 30-point scoring nights. He averaged 23 points a game during the regular season and played in his first NBA All-Star Game.
OG Anunoby (Toronto Raptors): The former Jefferson City standout has been a valuable two-way player for the defending champion Raptors. His missed the Raptors’ run to the world title last year, but he has returned to full health. He averaged 10 points and 5.3 rebounds while providing stellar defensive play.
Ben McLemore (Houston Rockets): The former Wellston Star has found a home with the Rockets’ rotation with his 3-point shooting, which fits in perfectly with the team’s style of play. Take as many 3-pointers as humanly possible. B-Mac averaged 10 points a game while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range. He scored 14 points in the Rockets victory over Oklahoma City in the first game of the Western Conference playoffs.
Michael Porter, Jr. (Denver Nuggets): With the Nuggets missing two key starters entering the Bubble, the former Father Tolton star was inserted into the starting lineup and has been sensational. He averaged 23 points and was named to the All-Bubble Second Team in the seeding games. He had a High game of 37 points in his second start.
Landry Shamet (Los Angeles Clippers): The former Park Hill standout has been a key rotation player for a Clippers team that is considered a major championship contender. He is an excellent 3-point shooter off the bench. He averaged 9.3 points a game while shooting 37 percent from 3-point range.
Isaac Burks (Philadelphia 76ers): The former Mr Show-Me Basketball from Grandview had a very productive season for the 76ers this season. The veteran shooting guard averaged 15 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists while making 39 percent from 3-point range.
Anthony Tolliver (Memphis Grizzlies): The former Kickapoo standout has enjoyed a solid 12-year career in the league with various teams. He found himself starting several games in the Bubble. He has been a consummate professional throughout his career.
Juwan Morgan (Utah Jazz): The former Waynesville High standout has worked his way into the starting lineup for the Jazz’ first round matchup against the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
A pair of other players from Missouri who are on teams in the Bubble are former Chaminade standout Tyler Cook of the Denver Nuggets and former Father Tolton standout Jontay Porter of the Memphis Grizzlies.
