The Factory didn’t start their pool play until Saturday morning, but Omaha Sports Academy, NBDA Bison, Lincoln Supreme, and Hoffman Hoops Academy all had 17u teams competing on day one. These are ten of the upcoming seniors that stood out on opening night of the River Cities Tournament.
Mai’jhe Wiley Mai’jhe Wiley 6'3" | SG Omaha Creighton Prep | 2021 State NE
Wiley is a long and shifty guard that made plays in transition and creates shots for himself at the rim. He is a creative finisher and good athlete that is solid on both ends of the floor. When Wiley’s team needs someone to get a bucket, he is the guy that can get a good look for himself.
Brady Timm Brady Timm 5'10" | PG Yutan | 2021 State NE
Timm is a strong and physical playmaking guard that puts consistent pressure on defenses. He has a nice jump shot and can create for himself at all three levels. Other guards have problems with his combination of quickness and strength, which makes it easy for Timm to gets to the basket in transition and in the half court. Once he drives in deep he can score or dish to open cutters and shooters.
Jadin Johnson Jadin Johnson 6'4" | PG Millard North | 2021 State NE
Johnson is a point guard with size that plays with great pace. He pushes the ball up the floor and looks to distribute and make plays for others. He is a good on ball defender that uses his length to force turnovers. Johnson elevates, finishes near the rim, and gets good looks for himself in the midrange.
Luke Skar Luke Skar 6'5" | PF Omaha Skutt | 2021 State NE
Skar can score efficiently in the post and had a stretch in the final game of the night where he looked unstoppable. He makes quick moves and can score in multiple ways on the block. Skar can be physical and body players under the rim or score with great touch on post hooks and turn around jumpers. He rolls hard to the rim after screens and finished extremely well near the basket.
Dawson Mohr Dawson Mohr 6'3" | CG IMG Academy | 2021 State NE
Mohr is a combo guard with deep three point range and scoring ability from all three levels. He ran the floor in transition and hit spot up threes and fast break layups. Mohr can handle the ball, create good looks for himself, and make plays in the open floor.
Derek Merwick Derek Merwick 5'10" | PG Elkhorn South | 2021 State NE
Merwick is a super quick point guard with a tight handle and great vision. He can captain an offense and create opportunities for himself and teammates. He has great change of speed moves, is tough to stay in front of defensively, and gets defenders out of position with strong pump fakes and pivots in the lane.
Taveon Thompson Taveon Thompson 6'4" | PF Lincoln Southeast | 2021 NE
Thompson is an athletic forward that cuts hard, fights for deep position inside, and scores well around the basket. He can play on the perimeter offensively and score on straight line drives at the rim. Thompson is an active rebounder on both ends and used his athleticism to earn extra possession for his team with offensive rebounds.
Carter Glenn Carter Glenn 5'11" | PG Lincoln East | 2021 State NE
Glenn is a lefty point guard that was aggressive attacking the basket Friday night. He had good vision to kick to open shooters when the defense rotated and was able to score at the rim when they didn’t. Glenn is versatile and can score or make plays for others depending on what the defense is giving him.
Quinn Frost Quinn Frost 6'0" | CG Gretna | 2021 State NE
Frost is a skilled point guard that can initiate the offense, distribute, and score from multiple spots on the floor. He can shoot it from outside, finished a nice finger rolls with soft touch in traffic, and made smart decisions as a ball handler all night.
Blake Daberkow Blake Daberkow 6'7" | C Macclay | 2021 State NE
Daberkow is a tall post player with good strength to seal defenders in the post and rebound. He protects the rim and takes up space on the interior defensively. Daberkow scored with both hands in the low post and worked hard for position on offense and defense.
