Recruiting Report: Terrence Butler Jr. (2021)
Terrence Butler Terrence Butler 6'7" | PF Bishop McNamara | 2021 State MD Jr. has gone about his business over the past three seasons during which he has quietly been one of the more productive players in the DC Metro Area. Unfortunately due to social distancing guidelines, he won’t be able to showcase his talents on the EYBL with Team Durant, but Butler insists he’ll be ready to go whenever play resumes.
“I’ve been working out. Doing different ball-handling drills in the garage,” Butler told Prep Hoops. “Zoom workouts with Bishop McNamara: strength, and conditioning. Running around the neighborhood.”
A turning point in Butler’s recruitment came last summer after he dominated Drexel’s Elite Camp, prompting the Dragons to offer him a scholarship. He mentioned that performing well there helped him realize that his hard work is paying off, and this motivated him to work even harder. Despite the fact that he won’t be seen by coaches this summer, Butler has acquired many suitors.
“A lot of different Ivy League Schools have been reaching out and have been on Zoom calls with me and my family,” said Butler. “Right now, I have offers from Drexel, Towson, Mount St. Mary’s, and Brown.”
With his recruitment being “still definitely open”, Butler confirmed that a handful of other D1 programs including Temple, George Mason, Niagara, and Robert Morris have also reached out to express interest. He hopes to take some visits before making a final decision.
“Right now, Drexel is standing out mainly because of the majors they offer. I’m into engineering so that’s a big attraction for me,” Butler stated. “I’m also into sports management.”
In the short-term, Butler is focused on bulking up and continuing to develop his skills. Adding weight will help him make the drastic transition from high school to college.
