Luke Murphy — Heritage Christian
Luke Murphy flew under the radar last season on a loaded Heritage Christian side. Still, his work as a shooter is not to be overlooked. The 6’2” guard centers his game more as a reliable 3-point shooter. He is a catch-and-shoot talent but can take on off dribble shots as well. His positioning is superb after racing to get to his spot on the floor. Once with the ball, he extends well on the shot, which makes it more difficult for defenders to contest at times. And when he is in a groove, he can get going very quickly as a streaky shooter.
Look for Murphy to receive an role on offense this upcoming season. He must show that he is more than just a shooter and display his skills as a range scorer with craftiness to get off shots. He certainly can do so while surpassing expectations.
Cameron Theus — Agoura
Agoura will be returning many of its top scorers from last season, including 6’0” guard Cameron Theus. He is a fast-paced guard with a knack on being a disruptor on both sides of the floor. He plays good on-ball defense and displays it by being aggressive with racking up steals or by simply doing it all on his own by jumping in front of passing lanes and going the other way for a fast-break bucket. The activity and production is there on defense, but consistency is key in not giving up opportune plays for the opponent.
Offensively, there is promise for Theus is grow here because of his speed. With more of an emphasis on driving to the basket, he can surely more of a force on this side of the ball.
Godfrey Little Godfrey Little 6'2" | SG Roosevelt | 2021 State CA-S — Roosevelt
Godfrey Little Godfrey Little 6'2" | SG Roosevelt | 2021 State CA-S is a player who just knows how to get to his spots and score. He is a talent full of confidence, and it shows when he is on the ball. He jumps well into his shot and extends throughout, which is critical in catch-and-shoot situations. The guard has a number of different scoring options that he often goes to, from quick step backs to pulling up for contested 3-point shots. His elusiveness and keen ball control adds to his offensive repertoire.
With sound efficiency this upcoming season, he will surely post a new career-high in 20-point games in a season.
Trey Burningham — Simi Valley
Trey Burningham is one scorer to watch for this season. The 6’1” guard added a good offensive spark to a team led by leading-scorer Angel Navarro. He has more of a line-drive shot but is more reliable in certain catch-and-shoot situations from the wing. On defense, Burmingham has keen awareness and is constantly surveying the floor. When near the ball-handler, he does well of tracking him down while also looking to close driving angles. He has more potential to be a nagging turnover creator, which can jumpstart transition possessions.
Look for Burningham to be more of a game-changer this season, such as in clutch offensive possessions in late-game situations.
