In the 17U Division, Team YOBO shared the championship trophy as both of their teams advanced to the championship game. Team YOBO also won the 16U title while Marcus Denmon Elite won the 15U championship.
Here is a look at some of the top standout’s from Sunday’s final day of action.
O’Mar Stanley 6’7″ (Team YOBO II 17U): The athletic power forward was a load in the semifinals as he scored 17 points in the semifinals victory over Marcus Denmon Elite while also controlling the boards and blocking shots on defense. His athleticism was also complimented by his high motor as he displayed a quick second and third jump on the offensive glass. He is slated to doing a year of prep school at Link Year.
Tony Osburn Tony Osburn 6'2" | CG Mound City | 2022 State MO 6’2″ (810 Varsity 16U – Cherepkai): One of the big revelations of the weekend, the Class 1 standout from Mound City is a legit three-level scoring threat with deep shooting range. Deep. He hit 34 points in one game with six 3-pointers while also displayed some nice athleticism with transition dunks. He was also able to create his own offense off the dribble with good elevation on his jumper.
Deuce Roberts 6’6″ (Team YOBO 16U): A multi-talented big guard from St. Michael the Archangel who can facilitate the offense at the point or slide over to the wing where he can create offensive opportunities. He has good handles and his movements are so fluid that it looks almost effortless. He can slide in and out of tight spaces when getting into the lane for buckets and he has 3-point shooting range to boot. He is a nice Division I prospect.
Cachao Gianquinto Cachao Gianquinto 6'3" | SG Battle | 2021 State MO 6’3″ (Marcus Denmon Elite 17U): A solidly built shooting guard from Battle who has an old-school flair to his game. He plays at his own pace and doesn’t get hurried when he wants to get on his spots on the floor. He can back down defenders to get buckets in the post or he can get by people off the dribble to score on the drive. His 3-point shooting is solid and he can also pass the basketball.
Paul Otieno 6’7″ (810 Varsity 17U – Burnett): A physical power forward who was a force in the paint in the semifinals with 23 points and a bundle of rebounds. He was really improved over the course of the year, which is when I saw him last. He has strong, tough moves around the basket and finished through the contact for And 1s. He also had a couple of nice takes from the high post for buckets. He worked hard on the boards and ran the court well. Attends Sunrise Christian.
Joe Berry 6’3″ (Team YOBO I): A versatile wing from Washburn (KS) Rural who put on an offensive show in the semifinals with 25 points in a victory over 810 Varsity. He got buckets from all three levels and displayed his athleticism with three transition dunks. He used his strength to scored on tough drives to the basket while knocking down a trio of 3-pointers. He plays well with and without the basketball.
Liam Weaver 6’4″ (Marcus Denmon Elite 17U): Steady wing player from Pemboke Hill who scored 25 points in a bracket game on Sunday. He is a coach’s dream because he can fill any role to help a team succeed. He scores mainly on smooth drives to the bucket, but he can also rebound, facilitate offense with his passing, take charges on defense and do all of the little things that don’t always go noticed on the court.
Eli Wingert Eli Wingert 6'8" | PF Blue Springs | 2021 State MO 6’7″ (Team YOBO I): A rangy and athletic power forward who was very productive with his skill set and activity. He scored 14 points in the semifinals victory over 810 Varsity. He finished well around the basket and knocked down a pair of 3-pointers from the top of the key. He also had a couple of nice blocked shots in which he got the ball at the square, which was impressive. He attends Blue Springs.
Connor Robertson 6’4″ (810 Varsity 17U – Burnett): The sharpshooter put on a great display in the second half of the semifinals where he hit six 3-pointers and rallied his team from a 20-point deficit to a near victory over Team YOBO. Not only does he have deep shooting range, but he has a quick release as well. A 2020 grad of Park Hill South, he is headed to Sunrise Christian for a year of prep.
