I saw as many games as I could across three long days filled with college basketball talent of all levels. I focused primarily on the class of 2021 because they are the guys who need exposure the most. These are some of the athletes who stood out for the E1T1 and 1 Family:
PF Jalen Haynes Jalen Haynes 6'8" | PF Dillard | 2020 State #327 Nation FL 6-8 E1T1 High School: Montverde Academy
Fresh off of a senior season at Dillard that ended with a heart breaking loss in the state championship, Haynes decided to take a post grad year at Montverde. In the game I watched the big man continued his dominance in the post. With a versatile skill set Haynes can post up, or take his man off the dribble. Against 1 Family he dominated in the post sealing his man, scoring off of pick and rolls, and offensive rebounds. A post grad year may be just what Haynes needs to prepare himself physically for big time Division I hoops.
G Justin Neely Justin Neely 6'5" | CG West Oaks | 2021 State FL 6-5 E1T1 High School: Miami High
Built sturdy at 6-5 Neely was a problem for the opposition. Against 1 Family he had several strong drives to the basket often finishing through contact, in addition to shooting well from the mid range. The big guard is a willing passer who sees the court well, and an excellent rebounder for his position. Already with a handful of mid-major and a couple big five offers, Neely’s recruitment should be an interesting process to follow.
PG Arturo Dean Arturo Dean 5'11" | CG South Miami | 2021 State FL 5-10 E1T1 High School: South Miami
An elite defender, Dean picked the pockets of opposing guards, and stripped unsuspecting big men who brought the ball down low on seemingly every other play. With a quick handle the guard scored a majority of his points either in transition, or on strong drives to the basket. Expect Dean to lead the state of Florida in steals next season, and torment the oppositions point guards.
F Roddrick Henry 6-5 1 Family High School: Oak Ridge
It is very difficult to label Henry with a position. For that reason, he is also a tough matchup for opponents. Built sturdy at about 6-5 the hybrid forward can step outside and take slower defenders off the dribble, or bully smaller defenders in the post. With a senior season left to polish his game, expect to see his list of suitors grow. And don’t be surprised if Oak Ridge is one of the best shows in town for high school basketball.
G Jarveil Gainey Jarveil Gainey 6'3" | CG Eastside | 2021 State FL 6-2 1 Family High School: Eastside (Gainesville)
Gainey was electric against E1T1 this weekend as the games leading scorer with 24 huge points. Every time E1T1 looked like they were about to pull away, the scoring guard drained another three pointer ending with seven total. Against Team Speights the guard drove to the basket a little more, and hit a couple more step back three pointers. With a senior year still left to get stronger, this young man has a bright future ahead of him at the Division I level.
PF Gabriel Ferguson Gabriel Ferguson 6'7" | PF Windermere Prep | 2021 State FL 6-7 1 Family High School: Windermere Prep
A leader on the court, Ferguson gets a majority of his points from out-hustling opponents. This weekend he rebounded well offensively getting put backs, scoring off of dishes, and finishing through contact. On a couple of occasions the forward faced the basket and beat slower opponents off of the dribble. Recruiting wise Ferguson holds an offer from Stetson.
