Continue ReadingIn an effort to provide new and unique ways to cover prospects, we thought it would be important to give some coverage to those that might not always get it. To do that, we will be digging deep into each conference in the state.
We will be breaking down each conference starting with the Class of 2021 first to show college coaches who they need to be placing a value on heading into the year.
We will continue to go through each conference to try and hit as many players as possible with the hopes of helping these seniors-to-be catch the attention of prospective college coaches.
Luke DeMeulenaere Luke DeMeulenaere 6'1" | PF Belle Plaine | 2021 State IA – Belle Plaine
One of the top scorers in the conference, Luke DeMeulenaere Luke DeMeulenaere 6'1" | PF Belle Plaine | 2021 State IA posted just over 16 points per game for Belle Plaine last year. The team finished 17-6 overall and 14-2 in the East division.
DeMeulenaere recorded 357 total points, shooting over 51 percent from the field. He also had 132 rebounds, 27 assists and 26 steals, knocking down almost 70 percent of his 103 free throw attempts.
Luke Hammen – Keota
With over 700 points graduating, Keota will need even more production out of senior-to-be Luke Hammen.
Last year, Hammen scored 294 points for the Eagles, shooting almost 45 percent from the field, 31 percent from the three-point line and over 70 percent at the free throw stripe.
Along with his scoring abilities, Hammen also added 118 rebounds, 64 assists, 28 steals and 10 blocks.
Cole Watts Cole Watts 5'10" | SG Montezuma | 2021 State IA – Montezuma
Montezuma is far from a one-man team in Trey Shearer Trey Shearer 5'10" | PG Montezuma | 2021 State IA , as the Braves also feature Cole Watts Cole Watts 5'10" | SG Montezuma | 2021 State IA . Last year, Montezuma went 25-3 and placed third overall in Class 1A at state.
Watts averaged almost 18 points per game with six rebounds and three assists. He finished with 495 points, 167 rebounds, 76 assists and 37 steals, shooting 51 percent from the field and burying a team-high 77 three-pointers.
He was also a 79 percent shooter from the free throw line and shot over 41 percent from deep.
Watts also is a standout in other sports for Montezuma.
Jackson Tegeler – Belle Plaine
A second piece to the returning nucleus for Belle Plaine is Jackson Tegeler.
Last year, Tegeler scored 200 points on 39 percent shooting, knocking down a team-high 52 three-pointers. He shot almost 40 percent from deep and also 71 percent at the charity stripe.
Tegeler added 73 assists, 64 rebounds, 40 steals and seven blocks.
Brady Duwa – Keota
A successful season showed a bright future for Keota, as the Eages went 20-4 last year before falling to Montezuma in the postseason.
Now, Keota will lean on returning starter Brady Duwa to keep the ball moving. Duwa scored 177 points with a team-high 141 rebounds, 49 assists, 48 steals and 33 blocks.
With leading scorer JD Stout JD Stout 6'0" | SG Keota | 2020 State IA graduating, there will be a need for more scoring out of Duwa, and after shooting 56 percent from the field, he should be ready to fill the void.
Duwa is also an all-stater on the football field and is receiving interest to continue his career on the gridiron.
