Who are the best athletes currently attending school in Montgomery County? The purpose of this article is to highlight some of the very best, regardless of class. Below you will find, listed in alphabetical order by last name, 10 of the top athletes from MoCo. This is part of a series that will aim to highlight players based on various superlatives.

Note: these superlative lists will not be mutually exclusive. If someone can handle the ball and do something else (i.e. shoot) at a high level, they will be included in both lists.

[player_tooltip player_id="957040" first="Corey" last="Chesley"] | Good Counsel ’23

Chesley's athleticism jumps off the page as one of his biggest selling points when you watch him play. A downhill-type wing who is a good positional rebounder and can also block shots, he displays solid defensive potential and high upside overall.

[player_tooltip player_id="954248" first="Ike" last="Onu-Chiedo"] | Churchill ’21

An athletic forward who plays with a high motor and has long arms, Onu-Chiedo is a good shot blocker, rim runner, and finisher who plays above the rim on both ends of the court. His growing presence in the paint was a huge factor in Churchill's success this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="836476" first="TJ" last="Gadsden"] | St. Andrew’s ’21

Gadsden's athleticism is bolstered by his intangibles. He plays with high energy and passion at all times. This helps Gadsden protect the rim, grab rebounds out of his area, guard multiple positions, and consistently finish strongly in traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id="902007" first="Jao" last="Ituka"] | Gaithersburg ’21

Ituka is a physically mature guard who is a good athlete. He defends with tenacity, plays with a very high motor, and rebounds out of his area. Ituka can be devastating in transition, where he is most dangerous.

[player_tooltip player_id="712742" first="Bez" last="Mbeng"] | Good Counsel ’21

Is there anything more exciting than watching Mbeng get out in transition and emphatically slam home a breakaway dunk? Probably not. Mbeng's athleticism is quite evident not just on these plays, but on the defensive end as well, where he is always active.

[player_tooltip player_id="775367" first="Mike" last="Myrie"] | Magruder ’21

Boasting a ridiculous 42-inch vertical leap, Myrie is a crafty lead guard who gets downhill quickly and is very athletic. When you consider his raw physical tools, it's easy to see why his upside is so high.

[player_tooltip player_id="837961" first="Kaden" last="Richardson"] | Churchill ’22

An athletic guard with a nice skillset, Richardson is a good positional rebounder and all-around defender. He is a talented shot-creator who attacks the rim with aggression, and his athleticism certainly aids him in these efforts.

[player_tooltip player_id="836508" first="Nurideen" last="Taylor"] | Clarksburg ’21

A sneaky athlete who is strong at the point of attack defensively, Taylor is very good in transition. He is an above-the-rim finisher who is also productive on the boards.

[player_tooltip player_id="902016" first="Mohamed" last="Toure"] | Sandy Spring ’21

Toure is a long and rangy wing who can defend on the perimeter as well as in the paint. He is a plus athlete who loves to get out and run, plays hard, and is an explosive finisher on the break.

[player_tooltip player_id="531243" first="Benny" last="Williams"] | St. Andrew’s ’21

Williams might be the best two-foot leaper in the DMV. Opponents are often seen clearing the runway when he charges down the lane and prepares to gather. On the defensive end, his high-level athleticism is evident in his efforts to protect the rim and rebound.
