In watching the Indiana Summer Classic this weekend, I was able to see several D2 prospects and even D3 caliber players that showed what they are capable of. Here are the 5 top performers.
Luke Montgomery Luke Montgomery 6'4" | C Findlay | 2023 OH (Indiana Elite 2023)- Two sport stud; strong build and physical presence inside-out. Excelled in the pick-and-roll and slipped screens to allow for open shots.
Caleb Schaffer (Mid Ohio Pumas-Kuhlman)- Strong inside-out presence. Best offensive player on this Mid Ohio Pumas team. Shoots the ball extremely well, but has an orthodox shot starting too low. Should see bigger role with his high school team (Bishop Ready) this Winter.
Anthony Ruffolo (937 Hoop Dreams)- Spark off the bench; smooth shooting touch but especially impressed with his floater and ability to finish in the paint.
Will Maxwell Will Maxwell 6'5" | SF Oakwood | 2023 State OH (Dayton Airmen)- One of the most impressive players in the 2023 class this weekend. Played his natural position with the Airmen as a 2-guard. Taller guard that showed he could shoot the heck out of the ball. Usually plays for All Ohio Red but was the most athletic guy on the floor.
Sam Walker Sam Walker 6'7" | PF West Carrollton | 2023 OH (Dayton Airmen)- Too big for opponents to handle. Soft touch at the rim and through traffic around the rim. Needs to work on spacing on the floor, but showed he could be a consistent 4 or 5 at the next level.
