SubscribeSulphur Springs is a great team from North Dallas that had a great run through the 5A State playoffs, losing to an elite Lancaster team in the third round. They finished with a 27-9 record and boasting a top twenty-five ranking in the state. This is my detailed scouting report on the guards of one of the top teams in 5A.
Lamodrick Johnson- Guard 6’3 2021
Lamodrick is a lanky guard with great potential who showed great skill at finishing through contact and in the lane. He showed great intelligence at utilizing his size to bully defenders down low and create easy putback opportunities for himself. He has great ball-handling skills and showed elite use of the hop step to create space in the lane. He is good at finishing in traffic and finished well with both hands on both sides of the rim. He is great at keeping his arms out on the defensive end and making himself feel bigger than his frame and caused poor passes from his on-ball defense.

– Guard 6’2 2021
Boo is a great spot-up shooter and hits open three-pointers at a great percentage and is comfortable shooting from the wing and head-on. He has no wasted motion on his shot and his lanky arms despite his size allow him to shoot over outstretched defenders. He is a confident player with the ability and game to back up everything he says. He is a flat-out scorer and operates very well in all three levels of the offensive end. He is even a great shooter from NBA range opening the fourth level in his game, hitting numerous threes from way downtown. Boo is an active team defender who is great at closing out to open shooters as well as staying in front of guards attempting to beat him off the dribble. He showed true intelligence in stopping the ball and funneling his guards to the waiting help defense.
Caleb Alexander- Guard 6’0 2022
Caleb is a young guard with great potential to develop into an elite scorer in the near future. He shows great touch on his shot and is a great shooter off the catch. If left alone in the corner he will make his defenders pay, which results in open driving lanes for his teammates in games where he heats up. He has NBA 3 point range and is fearless with his feet set behind the line, no matter the distance. He hit shots at a good clip from the corner, wing, and dead-on showing a real ability to develop into an elite scorer at this level.
Justin Brock- Guard 6’1 2020
Justin is a smart guard with great touch on his shot. He is deadly when left alone in the corner and keeps the defense honest and forces opponents to play him up close to ensure he does not catch fire. He is also a great clutch free-throw shooter, hitting numerous shots late in games. When running the fast break Brock showed great awareness at hitting open teammates as well as the ability to finish. He hit many defenders with head fakes and stopping on a dime to get them up in the air to softly finish underneath them. He hits the glass hard for his size and is constantly getting to loose balls with his energy on both ends of the floor. Justin is a great ball-handler who is great at getting into the lane and drawing second defenders and leaving easy dump off passes for his bigs as well as finding crisp passes to open shooters in the corner even while hanging in the air. He has an elite mid-range game and is great at spinning away from defenders and hitting tough fadeaways.
Grayson Mcclure- Guard 5-10 2020
Grayson is a sniper from long range and can be steps behind the line and still knock down shots at a tremendous clip. He is a smart player and knows he gets many hard-close outs from defenders, so he gets to his spots in the mid-range with simple head fakes. He is a fantastic shooter off the catch and does not require much space or time to get his deadly shot off over outstretched defenders. He plays engaging defense and is good at keeping his hands up and really getting underneath his opponents. He is great at throwing lob passes to his athletic rim running bigs and made other great passes over the top of the defense showing great touch and control on his passes.
