The group features elite talent that is already catching the eye of college scouts.
Here’s a look at some of the top scorers in the Class of 2022:
Lucas Lorenzen Lucas Lorenzen 6'4" | SF Okoboji | 2022 State IA , Okoboji (2022)
The top scorer in his class, Lucas Lorenzen Lucas Lorenzen 6'4" | SF Okoboji | 2022 State IA was one of two players for Okoboji to average over 20 points per game last year.
Lorenzen, the leader at 22.5, will be the focal point of defenses next year after the graduation of Jamison Helmers Jamison Helmers 6'0" | CG Okoboji | 2020 State IA . His numbers reflect someone ready to tackle that after knocking down 53 percent of his attempts.
Analysis: Lorenzen also made 44 percent of his 3-pointers while leading the team with 288 rebounds. His ability to play inside-out at 6-foot-4 makes him an intriguing target.
Austin Hilmer Austin Hilmer 5'10" | PG North Linn | 2022 State IA , North Linn (2022)
One Hilmer left the North Linn roster, but the other stepped up his game. Austin Hilmer Austin Hilmer 5'10" | PG North Linn | 2022 State IA , the brother of Jake Hilmer, averaged almost 18 points per game last year while dishing out an incredible 214 assists.
Hilmer was a 47 percent shooter from the field, 38 percent shooter from the 3-point line and knocked down 74 percent of his free throws. With Austin Miller Austin Miller 6'2" | PF North Linn | 2020 State IA moving on, this turns into Hilmer’s team next year.
Analysis: Hilmer has the leadership qualities just like his brother displayed, and the youngster should be primed for an incredible junior season.
Caleb Holmes Caleb Holmes 6'2" | SF Hinton | 2022 State IA , Hinton (2022)
Hinton had a formidable 1-2 punch with Caleb Holmes Caleb Holmes 6'2" | SF Hinton | 2022 State IA and Jake Koons Jake Koons 6'1" | SF Hinton | 2020 State IA last year, as the pair combined for almost 40 points a night.
Now, Holmes will be the main man after the graduation of Koons. The sophomore should be ready to deliver after leading the way at almost 22 points a night with 42 made 3-pointers.
Analysis: Holmes was effective from all spots, hoisting up 111 triples while also getting to the charity stripe 131 times, where he made 75 percent of his shots. He is as well-rounded a scorer as there is in his class.
Ashton Hermann Ashton Hermann 6'4" | SG Ballard | 2022 State IA , Ballard (2022)
Along with junior Connor Drew Connor Drew 6'6" | PF Ballard | 2021 State IA , Ashton Hermann Ashton Hermann 6'4" | SG Ballard | 2022 State IA gives Ballard quite the returning pair to build around going into next season after reaching the state semifinals.
Hermann was second on the team at almost 16 points per game, leading the way with 53 made 3-pointers. He also was an 82 percent shooter from the free throw line, chipping in 94 rebounds, 56 assists and a team-high 76 steals.
Analysis: Ballard should be primed for yet another strong season next year behind Drew, Hermann and Mason Murphy Mason Murphy 5'9" | PG Ballard | 2021 State IA .
Armonniey Thomas Armonniey Thomas 6'2" | PG Marshalltown | 2022 State IA , Marshalltown (2022)
The 6-foot- Armonniey Thomas Armonniey Thomas 6'2" | PG Marshalltown | 2022 State IA had no trouble adjusting to the Class 4A game, becoming a well-rounded scorer for the Bobcats.
Thomas shot almost 40 percent from the field, leading Marshalltown with 54 made 3-pointers. He also was the team leader with 127 rebounds, 66 assists, 49 steals and even eight blocked shots.
Analysis: Competing against much older competition, Thomas shined bright. He should be primed for another breakout season this coming winter.
Jevin Sullivan Jevin Sullivan 6'5" | SG North Polk | 2022 State IA , North Polk (2022)
At just under 20 points per night, Jevin Sullivan Jevin Sullivan 6'5" | SG North Polk | 2022 State IA made a name for himself this past winter with the Comets.
Sullivan knocked down almost 48 percent of his attempts, adding a team-high 54 made 3-pointers. He also was the North Polk leader with 125 rebounds.
Analysis: Sullivan averaged nearly half of North Polk’s nightly points, and he should be able to do much of the same next year as an experienced junior.
Tanner Te Slaa Tanner Te Slaa 6'5" | SF Boyden-Hull | 2022 State IA , Boyden-Hull (2022)
It was quite the memorable sophomore campaign for Tanner Te Slaa Tanner Te Slaa 6'5" | SF Boyden-Hull | 2022 State IA , as he led Boyden-Hull to a state championship.
Te Slaa was the leading scorer for the team, posting 17 points a night on 53 percent shooting from the field. Even more impressive was his 3-point shooting, as Te Slaa went 50-for-110 from the floor – and even made 82 percent of his free throws.
Analysis: Quite the season for Te Slaa, as he also was second on the team in rebounds and assists, while leading them in steals. The future is definitely bright for this rising star.
