Continue ReadingThe grassroots season is usually used for players to enhance their recruiting profile and to improve their skill set in game situations. With the postponement of the grassroot season until May and possibly later, most players will miss out on this crucial time for improvement. When the grassroots season does begin, there will be some prospects who should see their stock rise due to the upside of their talent. These players may be ranked in the bottom 50 now; however, they could be top 25 talents this time next year.
#53 Eric McKnight Eric McKnight 6'4" | SG Southwood | 2021 State LA | Southwood | Wing
McKnight has one of the more tantalizing skill sets of any player in the 2021 class. His potential ranges from being a great “3 and D” player to being on the all state team. McKnight can rebound, start the break, and finish it. His upside says he can be a mid-major type of player. If he is working on his game during this hiatus, we might see his true potential this summer and next season. (pictured above)
#57 | Trenton Colbert Trenton Colbert 6'8" | PF Mansfield | 2021 State LA | Mansfield | Forward
Colbert is already the best player on his team. The problem is 1-3A has changed it’s configuration and now includes Bossier. So, for Mansfield to be a factor, Colbert has to be a dominate force for his team. He has the tools. Colbert can shoot the short jumper and he erases or alters shots in the paint. He needs to improve his face up game to make a move to the next level. If his game becomes complete, the sky is the limit.
#58 | De’mon White | Oak Grove | Forward
White has the potential to be one of the biggest stock risers in any class. The Oak Grove forward has the size (6’6″) to be one of the more dominate forwards in Louisiana. He can run the floor like a gazelle and has the hops to embarass someone at the rim. He is also a receiver on the Oak Grove football team. If White realizes his basketball potential at this time and expands his game, he will be a highly recruited, stock riser coming out in 2021.
#60 | Bennie Amos Bennie Amos 6'0" | CG Landry-Walker | 2021 State LA | Landry-Walker | Guard
Going into next year, Landry-Walker may be one of the favorites in class 4A. Bennie Amos Bennie Amos 6'0" | CG Landry-Walker | 2021 State LA will be one of the reasons why. Amos can shoot the ball from distance at a high level. He also has that New Orleans toughness which gives him an air of confidence on the floor. While Amos will be on a senior-laden team, he will be a key cog. The way he shoots the ball, I look for his stock to boom in 2021. He can definitely be really good next season.
#68 | Blake Gillyard Blake Gillyard 6'0" | PG Northwood | 2021 State LA | Northwood | Guard
Gillyard is the lead guard on an up and coming Northwood Falcons team. They made the playoffs this year largely because Gillyard and his teammates bought into Coach Howell’s system. For them to take the next step in 1-4A and class 4A, Gillyard will have to take on more responsibility. He already plays the point. However, he will need to score more while facilitating. With his athleticism at lead guard, I see Gillyard’s stock rising once he scores more.
#71 | Cameron Brown Cameron Brown 5'11" | CG BTW-Shreveport | 2021 State LA | BTW-Shreveport | Guard
BTW-Shreveport made the jump to one of the top teams in 4A and junior Cameron Brown Cameron Brown 5'11" | CG BTW-Shreveport | 2021 State LA was integral to their success. Brown often defended other teams top offensive player and served as a third ballhandler. Now, in his senior season, he will need to take even more responsibility. While Brown can already drive and defend, his overall scoring will need to improve. If that happens, I see no reason why he will not be a top 25 player next season.
