The first ever WJG Sports Classic will be taking place this weekend on March 15, 2020, featuring some top talent in the Johnston County/Goldsboro area. Girls and Boys All-Star Games will be held as well as a skills competition, three point contest and dunk contest. So for those who may be wondering what players will be in attendance, lets take a look at some of the potential players and prospects that will be in the building.
Clayton HS Senior G/F BJ Freeman: He’s a name you already know as he currently holds offers from MM programs and has put together a very impressive season for Clayton. He finished the season leading Clayton to the Regional Semis while averaging 20 points and 11 rebounds per game.
South Johnston Senior G/F CJ Ray: He’s nicknamed the President and his effort this season truly fit his nickname as he was a leader for his team averaging close to a double/double of 20 and 10 on the year. He’s picked up offers from a few schools and has used this year to prove that he’s not an undersized PF but that he’s a legit Wing.
Eastern Wayne Senior F/C Devin BrownDevinBrown
6'8" | PF Eastern Wayne | 2020StateNC: One of the more intruigning players in the area, he’s a legit big man that has put together some nice performances over the season. Schools at the JC and D2 levels have been showing high interest and its said that he may be looking to stay as close to the area as possible.
Clayton HS Senior Guard Joquan Ross: One of the players that helped Clayton to go on a nice run this year, Ross is the perfect canidiate to go the JC route where he can continue to develop. He’s athletic, has the ability to knock down shots, and has some of the physical tools to be an overall solid defender.
South Johnston Senior Guard Thomas Dees: A good candidate for a smaller school that may be looking for a player that can shoot it well from deep, he has the nice combination of shooting ability and legit SG size at 6’3. Academically he is an outstanding student which should only make him that much more marketable for college programs that are looking for a shooter.
Wayne Christian Sophomore Jayquan Curry: Any time you have a player of his age, putting up 28 PPG, it’s going to grab your attention but this will be a great opportunity for him to compete against some of the top talent. He’s one of the younger players that will be in the building but if his numbers are any indication of his talent, he shouldn’t have much of an issue at all.
Goldsboro Senior Guard Christian Bullock: With quite a few solid showings under his belt this season, he will be one of those players that will look to use this spring to raise his stock. His averages of about 14, 5 and 5 shows that he can make an impact on the game in multiple areas.
