The conference, which has come together over the years with school consolidation and additions, features a dozen teams. Four of them finished with an 8-3 league mark or better, with South Central Calhoun going 10-1.
Each of those teams that placed in the Top-4 featured a standout athlete that carried them on several nights.
Here’s a look at the Top-5 players from the 2019-20 season in the Twin Lakes Conference:
Camden Schroeder Camden Schroeder 6'5" | SF East Sac County | 2021 State IA , East Sac County (2021)
A do-everything 6-foot-5 junior, Camden Schroeder Camden Schroeder 6'5" | SF East Sac County | 2021 State IA finished the season first in the TLC in scoring with 517 points and also the top rebounder with 216 boards. Schroeder shot 62 percent from the field, 44 percent from the 3-point line and 84 percent at the charity stripe.
Schroeder also dished out 64 assists, which ranked second on his team, and had 52 blocks. He showed off his array of scoring abilities in a 37-point performance against Pocahontas Area and also had 28 points and 16 rebounds in a win vs. South Central Calhoun in December.
Analysis: Schroeder made a major leap from a strong sophomore season that included 308 points and 185 rebounds, improving his percentages across the board. If he can keep that pace up, a memorable senior year could be on the horizon.
Zane Neubaum Zane Neubaum 6'2" | PG South Central Calhoun | 2020 State IA , South Central Calhoun (2020)
Night in and night out, not many players in the TLC put up the kind of scoring numbers of Zane Neubaum Zane Neubaum 6'2" | PG South Central Calhoun | 2020 State IA . The senior from South Central Calhoun averaged over 25 points per game, shooting 57 percent from the field, 80 percent from the charity stripe and knocking down 31 three-pointers.
Neubaum, a standout on the football field, battled an injury that limited him to 19 games in all. He still had 72 steals, 47 rebounds and 46 assists despite playing with one arm for much of the season.
Analysis: Neubaum could play either football or basketball at the next level, as he still has yet to make his college decision.
Ben Dunlap Ben Dunlap 6'3" | SF Emmetsburg | 2021 State IA , Emmetsburg (2021)
Emmetsburg made a strong late-season push, winning five in a row and nine of 12 down the stretch before falling in the postseason. That success was in large part to the play of Ben Dunlap Ben Dunlap 6'3" | SF Emmetsburg | 2021 State IA .
The 6-foot-3 junior scored 400 points, averaging 19 per game on 55 percent shooting from the field. He also showed his range with 22 made 3-pointers and led the TLC with 173 free throw attempts, making 126 of them.
Analysis: Dunlap is part of a large junior class in the conference, and should contend with Schroeder for the top player honors next year.
Aaron Graves Aaron Graves 6'5" | PF Southeast Valley | 2022 State IA , Southeast Valley (2022)
A future University of Iowa Hawkeye football player, Aaron Graves Aaron Graves 6'5" | PF Southeast Valley | 2022 State IA showed off his incredible athleticism on the basketball court this winter. Graves, a Southeast Valley sophomore, averaged just under 16 points per game with 161 total rebounds.
Graves, an offensive and defensive lineman in football that stands 6-4, also had 52 assists, 30 steals and 18 blocks. He even knocked down 27 triples, which ranked second on a team that made 171 this year.
Analysis: His future is definitely at Iowa with the Hawkeyes, but Graves continues to grow as an overall athlete with his success on the basketball court.
Trey Jungers Trey Jungers 5'11" | SF Newell-Fonda | 2022 State IA , Newell-Fonda (2021)
The son of Newell-Fonda girls head coach Dick Jungers, it is no wonder that Trey Jungers Trey Jungers 5'11" | SF Newell-Fonda | 2022 State IA is a great floor leader on the court. Jungers posted 86 assists and 66 steals this past season as a sophomore for the Mustangs.
Jungers finished second on the team at 13 points per night, shooting 47 percent from the field, 45 percent from the 3-point line and 74 percent from the free throw stripe.
Analysis: More was expected out of Jungers this winter after the loss of all-stater Bryce Coppock Bryce Coppock 5'10" | SG West Sioux | 2020 State IA , and he delivered. As the leading returning scorer next year, Newell-Fonda will be looking for even more improvement from the 5-11 guard.
