Bayless and his Ankeny teammates put together one of the best weeks of basketball we’ve seen at the state tournament in quite a while last week. He not only delivered the performance of the tournament with his 41 points and 10 rebounds against Iowa City West in the quarterfinals, but he impacted the game on both ends of the floor throughout the week. He’ll play JuCo or prep school ball somewhere next season, then should become a coveted Division I point guard prospect with his speed, strength and scoring ability.

Born wrapped up one of the all-time great careers with a state title last week, helping lead the Warriors to the school’s first championship. He led the tournament in scoring, regardless of class, and while he didn’t quite have the same efficiency as he had throughout the season, he was still able to impact the game on both ends of the floor. His semifinal performance against Ballard was one of his best of the season, going for 34 points and 11 assists. He finished the year with 983 points, which ranks 3rd in single season scoring.

A remarkably efficient forward who can score from anywhere and make an impact on the defensive end of the floor, he was great all week for the 2A runner-up, earning the captain honor on the all-tournament team.
