Here are some of the players who turned in big performances at 2A sub-state:
Stavion Jones, junior, Seabury:
Ranked first in 2A, the Seahawks will be seeded second at Manhattan.
Jones was just one of several stars during the sub-state run. He tallied 32 against Mission Valley, then 10 in the final against Lyndon.
Joao Carlos Ramirez, sophomore, Seabury:
The 6-foot-6 sophomore is a double-double machine. He tallied just 7 points in the 79-54 blowout of Mission Valley, but came back with 26 against Lyndon in the sub-state final.
Cameron Beardsley, junior, Valley Heights:
Valley Heights heads to 2A state as the seventh seed, thanks in large part to big games by the 6-foot-1 guard Beardsley. He tallied 18 against both Horton, and in the final against McLouth. He averaged 13.6 in the regular season.
Jaxson Pope, senior, McLouth:
The 6-foot-8 Pope averaged 17.4 on the season. He assured McLouth’s trip to the sub-state final with 28 against Oskaloosa. In the loss to Valley Heights, he tallied 18.
Tayshawn Barfield, senior, McLouth:
The 6-foot-2 senior tossed in 8 points against Oskaloosa. McLouth went down in defeat to Valley Heights 40-37, in which Barfield again tallied 8 points.
Cameron Heiman Cameron Heiman 5'8" | CG Northern Heights | 2020 State KS , senior, Northern Heights:
Northern Heights got by Wabaunsee 63-59. The fell to Lyndon 63-60. The 5-foot-10 Heiman was a solid leader throughout his senior campaign, averaging just shy of 20 points per game. Heiman scorched Wabaunsee with 30 points. He followed up with 21 in the loss to Lyndon.
Tee Preisner, senior, Northern Heights:
Heiman’s primary sidekick, the 6-foot-2 senior didn’t go down without a fight. He scored 10 against Wabaunsee, then contributed 15 in the Lyndon loss.
