MVP: Forward Dean Reiber Dean Reiber 6'10" | PF Northwest Guilford | 2020 State #366 Nation NC – Northwest Guilford
Reiber was a force to be reckoned with in the paint on both ends for the Vikings this season. He’s a 6-foot-10 forward that runs the floor well and finishes with authority in traffic. He can stretch the floor with his ability to shoot the 3 as well. He finished as an All-District and All-Conference performer after putting up 17.0 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.7 apg and 1.4 bpg. He’ll be a solid addition to Rutgers next season.
First Team
Guard Christian Hampton Christian Hampton 6'2" | CG Northwest Guilford | 2020 State NC – Northwest Guilford
Hampton is one of the most explosive athletes in the area and it showed in the conference tournament when he broke the rim on a windmill attempt against Grimsley this season. He’s good at getting to the rim and continues to work on his midrange game. He produced 18.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 4.0 apg and 2.0 spg in 2019-20 as the Vikings won the Metro Athletic Conference this season. He holds offers from Mount Olive and Catawba College.
Guard Stephen Minor – Winston-Salem Prep
Minor really stepped his game up a notch during the postseason, so much so he posted a triple-double against Mountain Island Charter to make it to the West Region Finals. In the Region Finals, he scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to get the Phoenix over the hump and onto the State Title game. He’s a combo guard that will turn heads next season at Queens University.
Guard/Wing Silas Mason Silas Mason 6'7" | SF Ben L. Smith | 2020 State NC – Ben L. Smith
Mason was District Player of the Year for a reason, given his ability to jump out of the gym and create mismatch problems on the wing. He’s a downhill driver that you don’t want to find a rhythm of getting to the paint or things could get ugly in a hurry. He did well to show up when needed down the stretch in postseason play and should land quite well at the next level with offers from a number of DI programs.
Forward Jakob Moore Jakob Moore 6'6" | PF Mount Tabor | 2020 State NC – Mount Tabor
Moore is an underrated 6-foot-7 forward that had quite the season in the frontcourt for Mount Tabor. He’s an athletic prospect that won’t hesitate to attack the rim and finish with authority. He’s mobile enough to play on the perimeter on both ends as well. He was a key reason for the Spartans’ success this season as they went 8-2 in conference action. He’s still an unsigned big that colleges should take a look at.
Forward Nicholas McMullen Nicholas McMullen 6'8" | PF Ben L Smith | 2020 State #304 Nation NC – Ben L. Smith
McMullen is a big man that’s difficult to stop in the paint at 6-foot-9. He uses his brute strength well to create space in the post and finish around the rim. He put up solid numbers in the paint and on the glass as the Golden Eagles made it to the Elite Eight in this year’s state playoffs. As he develops in the paint, he’ll be a player to keep an eye on at Murray State.
Second Team
Guard Khalid Hinds Khalid Hinds 6'0" | PG Ben L. Smith | 2020 State NC – Ben L. Smith
Hinds is a floor general that can set the tone on both ends with his ability to control the tempo on offense and defend the basketball fullcourt. He was the lead playmaker for the Golden Eagles and excelled as they went 21-8 on the year and made the fourth round of the state playoffs. The speedy guard holds offers from Mid-Atlantic Christian and should draw a few more before the signing period.
Guard/Wing Ahmil Flowers Ahmil Flowers 6'4" | SG Grimsley | 2020 State #406 Nation NC – Grimsley
Flowers was an All-District and All-Conference performer that led the way for one of the surprise teams in the area. The Whirlies went 7-1 under new head coach Darren Corbett and Flowers led the way by example, producing 19.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest. He’s bound for High Point after this but he’s a prime example of hard work paying off until the very end. He had a strong run during the spring and summer which carried over into his final high school season.
Wing/Forward Auldon Edwards – Reidsville
Edwards is an underrated prospect with the ability to slash and knock down the 3-ball. He was a force alongside Breon Pass Breon Pass 6'1" | PG Reidsville | 2021 State #193 Nation NC for the Rams as he put up 18.2 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.8 spg and 1.0 bpg in 2019-20. He was an ultimate competitor and always looks to make things happen with the ball in his hands. He holds a recent offer from Fort Valley State. He finished his career with over 2,000 points and was an All-District and All-Conference performer this past season.
Forward Evan Joyner Evan Joyner 6'7" | PF Piedmont Classical | 2020 State NC – Piedmont Classical
Joyner is another versatile prospect that understands his value when on the floor. He can protect the rim and control the boards or operate at the guard spot and handle the ball to create mismatches on the floor. He did well this season for the Bobcats as a stretch-forward, averaging 9.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg and 1.7 bpg in 2019-20 as they won another state title. He’ll be a solid addition to North Carolina A&T next year.
Forward Jefferson Boaz – East Surry
Boaz is a forward prospect headed to UNC for football after this season. He produced 23.9 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 3.1 apg, 2.0 spg and 1.6 bpg for East Surry as they made it to the second round of the 1A State Playoffs before falling to Winston-Salem Prep. He shot 37 percent from 3-point range and 61 percent from the field in 2019-20 as well to earn District Player of the Year honors.
Third Team
Guard/Wing Trent McIntyre Trent McIntyre 6'4" | CG Piedmont Classical | 2020 State NC – Piedmont Classical
McIntyre is a versatile prospect at 6-foot-4 that can operate with and without the ball. He put up 13.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.1 apg and 1.8 spg during his senior season as the Bobcats won the CAASC Title once again in 2019-20. He can score it off the bounce and off the catch and is quite the underrated defender, which showed when his team turned up the pressure. He holds offers from UNC-Pembroke, UVA-Wise, Mount Olive and Lander.
Guard Darien Wynn – Dudley
Wynn is a solid combo guard that led the Panthers scoring attack in 2019-20. He produced 10.9 ppg along with 3.8 rpg and 1.3 apg to lead the way for them. He’s an unsigned guard with the ability to create on the perimeter and in the paint.
Wing/Forward Jaben Mars – R.J. Reynolds
Mars was an indispensable piece for the Demons this season as he averaged 13.4 points, 9.0 rebounds (4.1 offensive) and 1.1 steals per game on the wing. He’s got nice length at 6-foot-4 that he used well to create on the floor and it showed as the Demons went 9-1 in conference action.
Forward/Wing Omarion Johnson – Eastern Guilford
Johnson is a double-double waiting to happen when given opportunities. He runs the floor well for his size at 6-foot-5 and does well to establish position in the post and finish around the rim. His ability to play with a motor is probably his most valuable asset. He doesn’t stop until the whistle blows. He’s another unsigned senior to keep an eye on.
Forward Alex Holt Alex Holt 6'8" | PF Lexington Senior | 2020 State NC – Lexington Senior
Holt is another double-double machine on this list from the area after producing 17.9 ppg, 17.7 rpg and 4.7 bpg during the 2019-20 season as his squad went 16-2 in conference action and 22-6 on the season. He moves well on both ends and as he improves his conditioning, he’s a prospect with tons of upside in the paint. He’s still unsigned but not long with offers from High Point, New Hampshire, Radford, Presbyterian, Morehead State, Wingate and Lander.
