College Commitment: Keegan Shivers (2020 Wilsonville HS)
Keegan Shivers Keegan Shivers 6'4" | SF Wilsonville | 2020 State OR had a plan. The tough 6-foot-4, 190-pound swingman was going to play things out with his Wilsonville teammates, hopefully lead them to another state championship, and then buckle down and focus on his college recruitment. As we all know, things can change in an instant so once the rest of the 5A state tournament was called off, Shivers decided over the weekend to go ahead and sign with OIT.
“I was going to wait until the tournament ended before I made my decision,” Shivers said. “But once we got that abrupt ending, I think I was pretty set on what I wanted to do.”
Shivers had been focused on OIT for awhile. But even though he did talk and visit some other schools, he realized that the situation in Klamath Falls was the best spot for him both on and off the basketball court.
“I thought that it was a really good fit,” Shivers said. “I really love the coach there, Coach (Justin) Parnell is an awesome guy. They’ve got some Wilsonville dudes there too and they say that they love him. And with the recruiting class that we’ve got with Jamison (Guerra), Erik (Fraser), and Blake (Jensen) we’ll be really good.”
With his decision in the books, Shivers reflected back on this past year with Wilsonville. “It was really fun playing with these guys and we really grew together,” Shivers said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever been closer with a team. I think that I’ve worked over the season and I feel so much more confident in my shot and Coach (Roche) has really helped me progress as a player.”
“I think that we were right in our stride in what we were going to be able to do,” Shivers continued. “Everybody on the team wanted to play Churchill and wanted to play those last two games, no matter what happened. It kinda sucked but it was in the best interest of everybody and that part I understand.”
Shivers currently ranks as the #29 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
