College Commitment: Erik Fraser (2020 Grant HS)
For Erik Fraser Erik Fraser 6'4" | SG Grant | 2020 State OR , the season did have some finality to it as Grant bowed out of the post-season right before the state tournament. With the year complete, the steady 6-foot-3, 180-pound wing hunkered down and honed in on his college recruitment. Fraser thought things over and made the decision to stay in-state by signing with OIT.
“I was deciding between OIT and Colorado Mines and thinking back on my visit to OIT, I really liked them,” Fraser said. “I had gone on my visit with Jamison (Guerra) and Blake (Jensen) in the fall and I liked those guys. So Coach (Justin) Parnell and also knowing those guys were going to be there, that all helped with my decision.”
OIT had offered Fraser back in the summer and had remained in constant contact, even as other schools such as Colorado Mines came into the picture. When it came down to it, OIT offered him the best package both on and off the basketball floor.
This past season at Grant, Fraser led the team in scoring (15.3 ppg) and steals (2.0 spg). As well as he played, he’s looking forward to improving his game for the next level.
“The goal was to get to Chiles Center and win state, but I think that I had fun with a good group of guys and we just came up a little short,” Fraser said. “But it was a good year. I’ve still got a lot to improve on but I got better at attacking and slashing to the hoop more. I just want to get better defensively and be a better passer.”
Fraser currently ranks as the #17 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2020 rankings.
