As was the case this past weekend in Huntsville for the 1st annual BeElite Senior Showcase.
This inaugural event featured some of the best talents in the state for the class of 2020. Each team bore the name of two of the nation’s most prolific scorers who happen to be from the “Heart of Dixie”. Team Kam vs. Team Tommy put on a show for the packed crowd that was in attendance.
Here is a list of standout players for Team Tommy:
Tommy Murr Tommy Murr 6'1" | SG Lindsey Lane | 2020 State #456 Nation AL , 6’1 CG, Lindsey Lane: The captain started off the afternoon getting buckets as he usually does. His ability to get off his shot against bigger more athletic defenders is a gift to watch. He is quicker than you expect and has a first step that often leaves his defenders trailing. He displayed a very creative lay-up package throughout the game finishing with Kyrie-like finishes. Look for him to contribute next season at Lipscomb who fell short at an NCAA tourney bid this season losing to Liberty in the final of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Giancarlo Valdez Giancarlo Valdez 6'3" | SG Decatur Heritage | 2020 State #367 Nation AL , 6’4 SG, Decatur Heritage: His presence on the floor with the best of the best in the class of ’20 from the state was evident in this game. He looks the part of a Division 1 basketball player. His IQ is high he has good size and he showed the ability to play several different positions. He showed the ability to shoot the ball with range against pressure and also be a distributor getting his teammates involved. Should make a quick impact next season at Stetson.
Zondrick Garrett Zondrick Garrett 6'7" | PF Oxford | 2020 State AL , 6’7 PF, Oxford: He showed what makes him worthy of his Division 1 scholarship. His ability to rebound the basketball is a definite sight to see. The way he pursues the basketball on the offensive and defensive end is special and is not a skill that can be taught. His long frame allows him to play bigger than his height making him one of the best shot blockers if not the best in the state. The Jaguars of South Alabama are getting a good one next season in this versatile prospect.
Tony Toney Tony Toney 6'2" | SG Mae Jemison | 2020 State AL , 6’2 SG, Mae Jemison: High high energy high flying guard put on a show during all festivities during the showcase including edging out the uber-athletic Jamari Smith Jamari Smith 6'4" | SG Lee (Montgomery) | 2020 State AL in the dunk contest. His motor and relentless style of play and superb athletic ability is what makes him such an intriguing prospect. At only 6’2 he is able to guard multiple positions because of his athleticism and strength. His demeanor on the court is something every coach should want on their team because he provides an instant attitude of toughness. He is still undecided at this point but should make some program better next season.
Jalen Myers Jalen Myers 6'7" | SF Bob Jones | 2020 State #348 Nation AL , 6’7 SF, Bob Jones: The versatile lefty can do it all on the floor. From playing as a big on the inside, but thrives on the perimeter against bigger defenders. He showed the ability to handle the ball in the open floor and a nice touch and feel from the outside. A bit of a tweener but once he makes his college decision his next coaching staff will have a true swiss army knife to play with next season.
