What part of your game have you worked on the most leading up to and now into your senior season?
My in game decisions, my ball handling, and my footwork on my defense are some of things I have worked on this summer up to now.
What are your primary strengths as a player? What separates you from other point guards?
Having quickness and ball handling to get to the basket and finishing over taller guys. My leadership on the court and court awareness are also strengths.
16 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals per game is an impressive stat line. What has been the difference in what has been a coming out season for yourself?
My teammates encouraging me to shoot the ball and being more aggressive. I have been mentally locked in when the game starts and that is why I’m having my best season this year.
What goals do you have for the rest of the season?
My goals are to win the rest of our games, win conference, districts, regionals and get to the Breslin. Also try to make an individual record of getting 1,000 career points and being named All-State.
What memories over your high school career have stuck out the most?
The big win over Muskegon at their place last year is up there. My career high in points (29) against Mona shores this year, a win over Jenison my sophomore year when they had a great team. In the summer of my freshman year, I played for Impact Elite (AAU) against The Family when they had Jalen Terry, Carlos Johnson, Isaiah Jackson, Maliq Carr, and Earnest Sanders. Even though we lost to them I put up 31 points against the Family.
Describe the rivalry dynamic of the three Muskegon schools. Do you have more contention towards one school or another? Does your team have Mona Shores and Muskegon circled on the calendar or is it just another game?
Reeths-Puffer and Mona Shores have always been a rivalry in all sports, but with Muskegon its sort of a rivalry but not in every sport. We have more contention towards Mona Shores. Yes we have them circled, because Muskegon is one of the top teams in the state every year and were trying to be on that level.
You guys recently picked up win in convincing fashion over Grand Rapids Union. Does a big win like that provide momentum going forward into the last month of the season?
It was a big team win. We stepped our defense up in the second half. The last 4 games we have had four guys scoring in double figures. If we can play like this throughout the rest of the season, it can be a special season.
Have you thought about what’s next in your career? If so, what factors are most important to you when deciding where to play at the next level?
I’m going to college for physical therapy or sports medicine. My most important thing is having God first and being somewhere that’s family.
