Stock Risers: Wichita area standout guards (2021)

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who are off to strong starts to the 2019-20 season in the 2020 class.</span></p> <p><b>Jaylin Henderson, 6’2, G/F, 2021, Wichita West</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A confident scoring guard who has a great feel for perimeter play, showing speed, strength and smart play across the board. Henderson is a good ball handler and can take advantage of match ups in a variety of ways. He can get to the free throw line well as he’s shooting 71 percent from the line. He’s shooting 45 percent from the field and 39 percent from 3-point range. After four games, Hendershot is averaging a team-high 20.5 points per game and adds 4.5 rebounds and one steal and one block. </span></p> <p><b>Jackie Johnson, 6’0, G, 2021, Wichita Southeast</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">An extremely talented guard who can put the ball on the floor and connect from deep. He has great in-game quickness and an array of moves to give him space and an open Lane. He can finish around the rim and shows the ability to stay strong and on his Mark when he leaves the floor it looks to make a play through the air. Johnson is averaging 18.3 points, 1.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds and two steals per game. He’s shooting 77 percent from the free throw line and 30 percent from 3-point range. </span></p> <p><b>Darby Roeper, 5’11, G, 2021, Haven </b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A nice junior guard with good speed, nice awareness and the ability to make plays in transition and finish around the basket. Roeper has good strength and can handle the ball for himself and create through contact. He can score from distance but looks to get others involved and knocked down high-percentage shots and get to the free-throw line. </span></p> <p><b>Rone Smith, 6'0, G, 2021, Wichita Southeast</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A defensive standout for Southeast who is great quickness and the ability to make plays on both ends of the floor. He's not the type of player to fill out a stat book, but he stands out as a defensive player who can overpower and outsmart opponents. Smith plays physical and with purpose and can make a splash as a shot blocker, perimeter guard and defensive threat around the glass. </span></p> <p><b>Hezekiah Washington, 6’2, G, 2021, Wichita West</b></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">An intelligent guard who brings good size, strength and control to the floor. Washington is a nice player for West who can take some pressure off the ball as he has the ability to break through strong defensive pressure. Washington is an underrated scorer and is capitalizing on his open looks across the bards. He understands his game and doesn’t put himself in a position to miss shots. He’s averaging 10 points per game, eight rebounds and nearly one block per game. He’s currently shooting 63 percent from the floor. </span></p>
