Continue ReadingThe Military Circuit is always a great stop during the high school season to get a look at some of the best post grad teams on the east coast,. This past weekend the action was at Fork Union Military Academy and I stopped by there for two games. The first game was between Fork Union and Three Point Sports Line Academy where Fork Union won by a final score of 103-62. The second game featured two of the best post grad teams in the entire country between Mt. Zion and Hargrave Military Academy, where Mt. Zion won 101-93. Below are some standouts from the two games.
2020 6’8 Woody Newton | Mt. Zion
It was one of the better performances I have seen of Woody in his career as the Syracuse commit finished with 13 points in Mt. Zion’s win. However, what stood out the most was his ability to get up for rebounds on both ends of the ball but especially the offensive end to give his team second chance opportunities. He finished with 9 rebounds. Always known for his athleticism, it really stood out on Saturday while he also looks a lot stronger this year.
2020 6’6 Otis Frazier III | Mt. Zion
Mt. Zion needed a bucket, Otis was always there to score for them. He is another athletic and big guard that displayed how well he can drive to the basket. His jumper was also deadly as he hit from many different areas on the court. Originally from Arizona, he finished with 29 points and is one of the better unsigned players that I have seen in the 2020 class.
2021 6’7 Anouar Mellouk | Fork Union
One of the better kept secrets in Virginia might be Anouar who is originally from the Netherlands. Standing at 6’7, he has tons of length and athleticism. His defense really stood out as he sat down and stayed in front of his defender really well with his long arms. Right now he seems a little raw but has a ton of potential and has the chance to possibly be talked about for power five school consideration.
2020 6’3 Jason Thomas | Fork Union
Jason put on an absolute clinic shooting the ball on Saturday finishing with at least six from behind the arc. Jason has good size and a good handle and knows how to get open for his teammates to get him the ball. Jason is another prospect that is seeming to go unnoticed but looks to have the potential to play at the low major level but also for a very good amount of division two programs.
2020 6’1 KD Johnson | Hargrave Military Academy
It seems like KD is having a sensational performance every time out for Hargrave this year. On Saturday he showed why Georgia fans should be excited about him suiting up for Tom Crean next year as he is one of the best competitors I have seen in the 2020 class. Johnson excels at attacking the rim and getting past defenders where he got most of his post from on Saturday finishing with 37 points.
