1.) 2020 Griffin Diggs, Ogden – 46 steals
The 6-2 senior not only leads the state with 46 steals, he also leads the Bulldogs in every major statistical category.
2.) 2020 Collin Bacon, Postville – 40 steals
The senior forward has been a dominant two-way player for the Pirates, leading the way with 19.9 points a game, and he’s also pulled down over three times as many rebounds as any other player on the team.
3.) 2020 Noah Beck, BGM – 38 steals
Beck recorded a state-high 155 steals last season, and is off to a strong start on that end this year. He posted 11 steals in a win over North Mahaska on December 16, tied for the most in a game by any player this season.
4.) 2021 Taurice Grant, Meskwaki Settlement – 34 steals
Grant has been a great two-way player for the Warriors, leading the team in scoring, assists and steals, all while shooting a remarkable 66.2% from the floor. Surely some of those steals have led to some easy buckets.
5.) 2022 Dayton Davis, Fort Madison – 33 steals
The sophomore guard has been a bright spot for a Bloodhounds team that has struggled so far this season. He leads the team in scoring, assists and steals.
6.) 2021 Ryan Krpan, Melcher-Dallas – 32 steals
The 6-2 junior has accounted for just under 50% of M-D’s total steals this season, and he leads the team in assists as well.
T7.) 2021 Dominyk Price, North Iowa – 29 steals
A 5-7 junior guard, Price made his name last year with his shooting ability, and while his numbers on that end have dipped, he’s been a menace on the defensive end of the floor early on this season.
T7.) 2020 Carter Lane, Southeast Valley – 29 steals
Lane has helped lead the Jaguars to a strong 6-1 start this season, leading the team in assists and steals.
9.) 2022 Austin Hilmer, North Linn – 28 steals
Hilmer has filled the shoes of graduated older brother Jake admirably, dishing and swiping it at a similar pace to Jake, the state’s all-time leader in both categories.
T10.) 2020 Sam Porter, AHSTW – 26 steals
Also one of the state’s leaders in assists, Porter has swiped 14 more steals than any other Viking so far this season.
T10.) 2020 Isaac Ihnen, Harris-Lake Park – 26 steals
The 6-3 forward is having a huge senior season, leading the team in scoring at 22.1 points a game. He also paces the team in rebounding.
T10.) 2021 Austin Bienemann, Nashua-Plainfield – 26 steals
A talented junior guard, Bienemann leads the team in scoring (23.7), rebounding (62), assists (33) and blocks (11) in addition to steals.
T10.) 2020 Bryce Coppock, West Sioux – 26 steals
A transfer from Newell-Fonda, Coppock has been a dynamic two-way threat for the Falcons, averaging 25.4 points a game and leading the team in steals. His two-way ability has helped West Sioux emerge as one of the most dominant teams in 2A.
The next 13: Brennan Sefrit (2020, Bedford; 25), Carson Michels (2021, Bellevue Marquette; 25), Wyatt Stansberry (2020, Moulton-Udell; 25), Austin Miller (2020, North Linn; 25), Robert Powell (2022, Clarinda Academy; 24), Matt Ockey (2020, Gilbert; 24), Max Hough (2023, Graettinger-Terril; 24), Carter Morton (2020, Greene County; 24), Justin Kirwan (2020, Hinton; 24), Gabe Loera (2020, Postville; 24), Noah Wells (2020, Seymour; 24), Landon Schleisman (2020, South Central Calhoun; 24), Kaya Bowlsby (2020, Woodward-Granger; 24)
