These players names could be thrown around for Mr. Basketball, when it’s all said and done. This won’t highlight all or many, just a few standouts in that certain time.
VonCameron Davis (2020) | 6-5 WF | Walnut Ridge
Davis was picked by many to win Mr. Basketball before the season, simply because he’s going to put up the big time numbers. The senior has done that so far for Walnut Ridge, who is off to a nice start to the season with just that tough loss to Toledo Rodgers. Putting up 27 points a game so far this season, including a 33 point outing as well as a 30 point outing, both coming in wins. The Kent State commit will battle for a City League title this season. He’s going to put up the numbers and wins to be thought of for the best player in the state.
CJ Anthony (2020) | 6-1 PG | Harvest Prep
Harvest Prep has only had a couple games so far, both blowout wins, which could be a common theme this season as the they just reload. Anthony leads the way once again this season, and he’s already off to a nice start with a 31 point outing, and scoring 21 in their season opener. The toughest guard in his area won’t be challenged a whole lot, but should definitely be up there with the best players in the state. Can do everything with the ball in his hands and is a tough defender, as tough as they come.
Matt Allocco (2020) | 6-4 G | Hilliard Bradley
Early on, there hasn’t been a better team in Central Ohio then Hilliard Bradley. Off to a 5-0 start and three very nice wins, Hilliard Bradley isn’t a team to mess with early on. Matt Allocco, the Princeton commit is a huge reason why. Averaging 18 points a game, he affects the game so much more than just points though. Stuffs the stat sheet across the boards, takes over games and is a lockdown defender at times. 22 points over Thomas Worthington in a big time road victory stands out for the senior. When it comes time to talk about Mr. Basketball, this is one you can’t sleep on.
Josh Irwin (2021) | 6-7 PF | West Geauga
Irwin is a big time sleeper for Mr. Basketball, but with the way he is playing to open the season, why not? Through four games the big guy is putting up nearly 25 points a game for West Geauga. Add in his 13 rebounds a game and he’s a walking double-double every night. Off to a 3-2 start is his team, but he has played lights out. Excited to keep up with the junior.
Josiah Fulcher (2020) | 6-2 WG | Lima Senior
Bowling Green received a commitment from a straight GAMER, not long ago. Fulcher is off to a nice start this season, as his Lima Senior team. The senior has scored 29 and 25 points in two of three games this season, as the Spartans are 3-0. Another player that is going to have a real chance to take Mr. Basketball and very well could have the team success to do so.
