Continue ReadingThe Tarkanian Classic came to a close on Saturday. The event, honoring legendary UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian, brings together hundreds of the top Prep programs in the nation. Event organizer Dinos Trigonis, a legend in his own right does a tremendous job of putting together fan-friendly matchups. The event featured 8 different divisions spread out over several courts throughout the city. In this article, PH takes a look at some of the top players under 6 feet from the Tarkanian Classic.
Phil Harris 5’7 Corner Canyon 2021 (#17PHU 2021) – Harris is a tough scrappy PG. High IQ guy that is not going to make mistakes that allow his team to get beat. Pitbull type defender that will challenge ballhandlers. Harris had a couple big games in helping Corner Canyon reach the championship game of the select bracket.
Anthony Hunter 5’11 PG Durango 2020 (#7PHN 2020) – Anthony Hunter is a highly sought after recruit. I once sat at a practice where a coach drove 4 hours just to see him for one day. I now understand why. He’s a microwave type scorer. Once he gets hot he has the ability to put up points in a hurry. Perhaps one of the best under 6’0 run and jump athletes in America. Hunter displayed quick hands all week, picking several ballhandlers clean. He helped Durango reach the championship game of the Orleans bracket.
Coleman Ford 5’11 PG Timpview 2021 (#9PHU 2021) – Ford is a crafty ballhandler that displayed a winner’s ability to protect the ball for his team. Coleman carved up an aggressive trapping Ft Lauderdale team with his strong handle and ability to create for teammates.
Lian Ramiro 5’11 PG Grandview 2020 (#26PHC 2020) – I’m so happy to hear Ramiro will be playing at CSU Pueblo next season. Certainly shows there is a place for high IQ unselfish players. He may look innocent, but on the court, he is a ferocious competitor. Some games Ramiro was asked to distribute, in others he was asked to score. Didn’t matter, because whatever Grandview needed, Ramiro was prepared to provide.
Donald Stephens 5’11 PG Grant 2023 – Stephens is a young player on the rise. The freshmen point guard showed some good playmaking skills. He has a good handle and displayed the ability to be a willing and creative passer.
