Prep Hoops Kansas released its most recently updated 2020 class rankings this week and the updated list features several players who have been mainstays in the rankings, as well as several players who have moved up the list.
Here Prep Hoops takes a look at several guards who have raised their profile and moved into the Prep Hoops rankings for the first time.
11 — Cougar Downing, 6’2, G, 2020, Olathe West
A KC Pacer guard over the summer, Downing has been drawing interest in the offseason and moving up the ladder with his creativity and ball handling skills. Downing has the ability to put the ball on the floor and create and can score in a variety of ways both inside and out. He moves well through contact and is a strong and aggressive player on both sides of the ball. Downing made a huge impact over the summer months and shows terrific poise, basketball IQ and the ability to run a team effectively.
30 Braeden Wiltse, 6’3, G, 2020, Mill Valley @BraedenWiltse
Wiltse made a big splash this summer with MoKan 2020 showing a lot of control and a soft touch. He has great movement off the ball and can get to the basket and finish off the glass. He has good speed and shows a playmaking ability when he has the ball on the perimeter and is looking to go inside. Wiltse has committed to play at Concordia in Nebraska after a strong summer running with MoKan 2020.
43 Alex Schremmer, 5’11, G, 2020, Great Bend
An extremely underrated all-around athlete, Schremmer is an excellent shooter from three-point range and can handle the ball and control the pace of a game. He is a strong catch-and-shoot player and has a lot of confidence and a competitive nature on both sides of the floor. He plays good defense and looks to contest shots. Also a standout football player, Schremmer is a terrific athlete in Western Kansas that shouldn’t be overlooked.
48 Jack Sheplak, 6’3, G, 2020, Blue Valley North
Sheplak is an active guard who shows strong playmaking ability when he’s focused and has his shot dialed in. He can get inside and make plays and has the height and competitive nature to play physical and make plays against strong defenders. He can catch defenders by surprise with his step back and also knows how to drive and get around opponents. A solid overall player who understands his role.
51 Travis Beetch, 6’3, G, 2020, Abilene
Beetch put together a strong offseason with SSA Eliteas he showed tremendous improvement with his three-point shooting and overall play around the basket. He’s a strong player who is very aggressive inside and has a nice touch to his passing game. He shoots a high percentage shot and ads a toughness that is hard to ignore and difficult to slow down once he gets going. A much-improved player who chose to work on his game and improve overall as a player.
