There is solid players in every grade on all teams throughout the HCIAL. Heading into this season, here are some juniors to keep an eye on.
Justin Glover | 6’2 PG | Hudson Catholic
The list has to start with Glover who will be one of the best juniors in the state, let alone the conference. As a sophomore, Glover contributed greatly to Hudson Catholic who led the HCIAL with 21 wins. He showed the ability to be a true point guard. Glover could score when needed from inside or out. His best attribute might have been that as a passer where he always got his teammates involved. Expect Glover to go from solid role player to star in 2019-2020.
Manny Exauce | 6’9 PF | Marist
This big forward is expected to make a massive leap for Marist this season. He is a true rim protector and rebounder already. Exauce had six blocks in a win over Irvington last season. His work as a scorer, especially down low, will improve with experience. Heading into the season, Marist has a physical force that they should feel good about.
Josh Hopson | 6’8 C | St. Peter’s Prep
St. Peter’s Prep will welcome Hopson in as a transfer. He spent his sophomore campaign at Seton Hall Prep where he made a name for himself. He will now look to make a huge impact in the HCIAL. As a sophomore, Hopson used his 6’8 frame to dominate down low as a scorer. He is expected to be one of the top big men in the class of 2021 in New Jersey. There is plenty of competition to measure up to but Hopson has the size and skill to do so.
Malik Austin | 6’6 SF | Hudson Catholic
Like Hopson, Austin is a newcomer to the HCIAL. He is coming over from Carteret to join Glover at Hudson Catholic. The two juniors could do big things as a duo over their two years as upperclassmen. Since his freshman year, Austin has been a scorer. He has next level size to go along with ability to shoot and handle the ball with fluidity. Hudson Catholic won 21 games last season and with their new dynamic duo, the team is not expected to go anywhere anytime soon.
