Semi-finals
Forest Hills Northern 68, Coldwater 53
In the opening semi-final, Forest Hills Northern’s dynamic backcourt of Trinidad Chambliss and Ethan Erickson led the Huskies to a convincing victory. The junior duo combined for 49 points, 10 assists, and eight steals, showing why they should be one of the more talked about backcourts in the area. Coldwater was led by Dyland Taggart’s 17 points.
Hudsonville 76, Kenowa Hills 40
The Eagles rolled past the Knights in the second semi-final, fueled by a breakout game from Justin DeGraaf. The transfer from the Indianapolis region scored any way he wanted by hammering dunks home, breaking down defenders from the wing, and flashing a barrage of post moves and excellent footwork in the paint. Jack Joldersma also showcased his athleticism, adding 20 points and five rebounds.
Consolation Game
Coldwater 56, Kenowa Hills 50
Austin Santure continued his scoring ways in the consolation game, adding 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting. The Cardinals stymied any scoring runs Kenowa Hills attempted to put together, due in large part to Dylan Targgart’s defense. The big man proved to be an immovable force in the paint, collecting 19 rebounds. Kenowa Hills was led by Ryan Bart (15 points) and Evan Breuker (13 points).
Final
Hudsonville 75, Forest Hills Northern 65
The blue division championship pitted two of the areas best teams against each other in one of the highly anticipated games of December. In the early going, both teams exchanged punch for punch, hitting their strides offensively. Hudsonville led 33-31 at the break, then slowly created enough space in the second half to outlast the Huskies. Ultimately, Hudsonville’s frontcourt proved to be too much to handle as the Eagles grabbed 13 offensive rebounds. The Eagles had four players in double figures and a near fifth with Joldersma adding 9. When all five starters are knocking down shots like this, Hudsonville is as tough of a team to beat as anyone in the state.
