North Posey dominates Boonville
The first game of the River City Showcase saw North Posey absolutely dominate Boonville 72-38. Boonville was heading into this season off a “not so great” season last year but brought in some potential to improve. Posey on the other hand had brought in an offense that was going to be very solid and that was shown tonight. Josiah Ricketts, team’s leading scorer last season, lead the team tonight with 24 points while Camden Bender (12 points) and Grant Allyn (11 points) both were huge contributors. This was the first game of the year for both squads and while North Posey may have started off hot this season, Boonville will have plenty of time to improve.
Mater Dei takes care of North Daviess
The River City Showcase also saw the Mater Dei Wildcats take care of business against the North Daviess Cougars, 61-51. The scoring leader for the night was Mater Dei’s Jackson Hiester who dropped an impressive 19 points. While Hiester may have been the leading scorer, it was his teammate Tyler Phelps who had a monster night as he contributed a double-double adding 14 points and 10 rebounds. North Daviess’ Jack Townsend and Trevor Riggins also had great nights with each dropping 15 points. Overall this was a pretty competitive game throughout and with that said Mater Dei starts off the new season 1-0 while North Daviess has already dropped to 0-2 in tough losses.
Princeton survives a close one
The final game of the evening saw Princeton defeat Evansville North in a close battle, 53-46. The story of the night was that Princeton’s Rhett Thompson dropped his second double-double of the season with tonight dropping 21 points and adding 10 rebounds. His teammate Jurien Ballard also added 13 points as well. However the leading scorer of the night was North’s Chandler Moore who dropped over half of his team’s points with 24. Princeton is off to a hot start after already beating a tough Wood Memorial team. I know it is early, but this Princeton team might be the most underrated team so far this year. Watch out for this team to continue to secure some wins, especially if Rhett Thompson is going to continue to play like a beast.
