There was a lot of solid talent in the building in the two matchups I watched between Garden and Orange Lutheran and then St. Francis and St. John Bosco. Here’s a look at some of the top players in the building.
1. Tibet Gorener – Orange Lutheran 2020
An incoming senior, Gorener is a very versatile player. He’s in the mold of a stretch big man that thrives in today’s offenses. He shoots very well from the outside and he can shoot with a defender rushing at him. He moves well without the ball to get open and is a catch and shoot player. Defenders respect his outside shot and he uses fakes to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim. Runs the floor well in transition and finishes strong at the rim.
2. Michael Frankling – Gardena 2020
Another incoming senior, Frankling is a very strong guard. He’s bigger than most other guards and he can get to the rim easily. At the rim, he uses his size to draw contact and get to the free-throw line. He’s a good stop and pop player and can get off his shot in one to two dribbles. Decisive player who knows where he wants to go on the court. Defensively, he has quick hands and solid on the wing.
3. Josh Camper – St. John Bosco 2020
Camper is also in the mold of a strong guard. He’s a tough player who finishes strong with contact at the rim. Tries hard defensively and plays tough on the wings. On the offensive end, he’s a very good three-point shooter. He squares up and steps into his shot well. He does a good job of getting himself free for a jumper by constantly moving and coming off screens.
4. Wynton Brown – St. John Bosco 2020
Brown is a Northern Arizona commit who is going to be a key player for Bosco this season. He too is a strong outside shooter. He can shoot well from both the three-point line and from the mid-range. He has good size and is an athletic player. He crashes the glass well and looks to get second shot opportunities for his team on the offensive glass. He finishes well at the rim.
5. Jason Gallant – St. Francis 2020
Gallant has a pretty solid off the dribble game. He is patient when making a play off the dribble, he’s a bit methodical and doesn’t force the issue. He’s a very good outside shooter who can spot up well. He can hit step back threes with defenders in the vicinity. He has a quick release on his shot making a bit difficult for defenders recover. He can also get the rim.
