Gonzaga Looks Deserving Of Number One Rankings
Sheesh, good luck trying to find a way to stop Gonzaga on offense this year. This is one of Steve Turner’s deepest rosters since I have been following his Purple Eagle’s program. Butler signee Chuck Harris looked poised leading the offense while Terrance Willams was being his normal productive self crashing the boards and making tough shots from all over the floor. Vanderbilt signee Myles Stute was terrific from deep as he was 3 from 5 from deep in my viewing. 2020 Josiah Hardy looks to have a much more significant role this year and he looked confident as ever with the ball in his hands. The most exciting part of the team from today might have been from the 2022 duo of Devin Dinkins and Judah Mintz. Dinkins was creating separation from the defense all day long allowing him to hit wide open shots while Mintz was unstoppable in transition and making a case to be the top 2022 prospect in the area. All of this proved to me that we were right with our ranking of having Gonzaga number one to start the season.
Fairfield Gets A Steal In Edokpayi
Fairfield is getting a steal in 6’7 Jason Edokpayi. There is no doubt that Jason has pretty good athleticism which allows him to be versatile on both ends of the floor. Jason was crashing the offensive boards all day long which ultimately led Mt. St. Joe’s to get a lot of second chance buckets. Jason was finishing above the rim a lot and showed that he can guard multiple positions on defense and showed he can alter shots on defense. We would like to see him continue to improve on his jump shot which would even take his game to another level. Edokpayi is going to make noise in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference right away.
Antonio Hamlin Is One Of The 2022 Prospects That Stood Out
There were a handful of 2022 prospects that stood out today and one of them was 6’1 guard, Antonio Hamlin. Hamlin plays with a good motor and is a strong guard that looked comfortable with the ball in his hands. You can tell the trust that he already has from his coaches as he was one of the main focal points on offense today.
Eleanor Roosevelt Gets After It
Eleanor Roosevelt will be in a lot of games because of the toughness they bring. This is a group that has a solid core led by 2020s Mt. St. Mary’s pledge Quinton Mincey and Joemel McNair. McNair got after it today on defense which ultimately led to offense for Roosevelt. I was impressed with how active McNair was on both sides of the ball. Mincey is one of the most athletic players in the local 2020 and that showed today as he was able to finish above the rim multiple times. In the paint Solomon Eric will take up a lot of space with his size. Brendan O’Connell does a great job of getting the most out of his players and that should continue this season which will help ER pile up a ton of wins this season.
Rodney Rice Puts On Shooting Clinic
I said it last week and I will say it again, Rodney Rice is one of the best scorers in all of the DMV regardless of class. In two scrimmages this past week I have seen him make more shots than he has missed. He is deadly from three and I do not see him slowing down as the season goes on. It is going to be real interesting to see how many points Rice ends up with before his time in high school is done.
