Here, we take a look at some predictions for the division as a whole and what to expect.
Predictions:
CJ Anthony grabs another player of the year, as we all know will happen: CJ Anthony is an absolute dog and quite frankly un-guard able in the MSL. He’s going to average close to 30 points a game, and still the same player that can set up teammates. Harvest Prep will have to once again surround him with talent, which they will.
Brock Unger averages 20 a game for Berne Union: With Unger’s size and shooting ability he’s a matchup problem for forwards, and often to big for wings to guard in the MSL. Last season Unger scores about 16 points a game and was huge for a pretty good Berne Union team. The competition level may have been low, but Unger went for 49 points against Granville Christian last season, an impressive number to say the least. Outside shooting ability off the catch and shoot is dangerous for the junior. Expect a big time season from the 6-5 wing forward.
Harvest Prep will be just fine after losing quite a few seniors: We’ve already talked about CJ Anthony, so we can save that part. But, the best team with the best player in the conference will need players to step into bigger roles and that they will. Expect junior Brian Beavers to take a leap after scoring around six points a game for a loaded state championship team. Senior Malachi Henry could find himself in a larger role as well. Harvest Prep had some talented players in the lower grades that will prove themselves on varsity this season too.
Bryson Vogel and others take a step forward for Fisher Catholic: Fisher Catholic was solid last year in the Cardinal division. But, they lost their top two scorers from that team that won a bunch of games. Vogal will be their leading scorer this season assumingely so, as he is their returning leader. The Irish will need him a ton this season to lean on if they want to have a season anything like last year, despite not winning the conference it was solid. Expect other players such as Sam Maynard and Kaden Starcher to step up too.
Grove City Christian will compete at a better level: Grove City Christian didn’t win a lot of games last year. And, they may not win a ton this year. But, expect to see a couple more wins for the Eagles. They return six of their top seven in terms of production. Blown out in a lot of games last year, expect that to change partially. Another year for these players means another year that they have been given the chance to get better. I think the Eagles will improve on their 5-18 season from last year.
