Not only have they been one of the best basketball programs in the state of Georgia, but they have been one of the best basketball programs in the country as well. How will they look this upcoming season? I had the chance to make my way over to Norcross High School earlier today for their workouts in front of college coaches such as Kansas HC Bill Self, Georgia Tech HC Josh Pastner, and other assistant coaches from mid-major and high major programs.
Head coach Jesse McMillan and his coaching staff are getting ready for their post Brandon Boston season for the 2019-2020 season. The Blue Devils finished the 2018-2019 season last year with a 22-9 overall record and finishing in the class 7A final four where they lost to McEachern High School. Since 2017, Norcross holds a 76-19 overall record including two class 7A state championship appearances and one class 7A final four appearance.
This season’s squad will certainly begin the season as the number one ranked team in the state of Georgia. Although they lost two key guards from last year’s final four squad and graduating seniors, the Blue Devils gained a couple transfers including top ranked 2020 F JT Thor and 2021 F Josh Taylor. Thor is one of the nation’s top ranked prospects in the 2020 class and spent his junior season at powerhouse Huntington Prep (WV). Georgia native Josh Taylor has returned to the peach state after just one season at powerhouse Greensboro Day (NC).
The Blue Devils top return man will be 2020 SG Kevon Eskridge and also 2021 PG Jaden Harris. They will have another tough schedule this year and will once again represent the state of Georgia on a national level. Norcross is expected to compete in top events and tournaments such as the Cancer Research Classic, Spalding Hoophall Classic, Holiday Hoopsgiving, Les Schwab Invitational, On the Radar Hoops Showcase, Hawks Naismith Classic, and Peachtree Corners Invitational. The Blue Devils should be battle tested once the state playoffs come around and are the key favorite to capture this year’s class 7A title.
